#DistroHopping

Benzer süreci yaşayan çoktur; bir müddet sonra yorucu oluyor.
Ardı sıra sistem can sıkmasın, kararlı davransın ve efendice işini yapsın yeter aşamasına geçiyoruz. Benim tek tercihim (KDE) Ufak tefek birkaç kişiselleştirme eyleminden sonra kafam gayet rahat!.. 🍀

I'm #Linux #distrohopping for thirty years now: #buzz#rex#bo#hamm#slink#potato#woody#sarge#etch#lenny#squeeze#wheezy#jessie#stretch#buster#bullseye#bookworm#trixie#forky. Not sure what to try afterwards. Maybe #duke? Or go back to buzz?

Free Software Friday! If you are curious about Linux, installing it can be the first hurdle, especially if you want to try out multiple different flavors. Ventoy can help you get started and make it easy to try various distributions.

It's 101 days without distrohopping!

It may not be impressive to many of you, but for a chronic distrohopper, who often couldn't stay even a month on a single distro, over 100 days IS a big deal.

This only goes to show how good #LMDE 7 is!

@linuxmint keep up the GREAT work!

It is now 03:16, and my NixOS config *should* be ready. After a good night's sleep, I will back up, think, back up again and then once again reinstall my operating system.
After that, I will selectively restore from backups of both `stickerbox` and `yoga`, and theeen... I need to catch up my bookkeeping.

Spent the evening migrating my laptop (XPS 9700) from Debian to Alpine.

<gasp - horror - shudder>

Installing is a different experience compared to generic PC hardware. There was a number of things I had to chase manually like wifi, audio, Dell firmware support but it wasn't a big deal. Debian takes care of those things for you on the laptop during install (non-free install ofc).

The Alpine wiki is quite good. Everything I needed to get things going was there.

Network Manager is still a pain in the a55 but on a laptop I'll deal with it. Ha.

@SpaciousCoder78 Seems everyone now prefers apple products in India (been ages like this though). BTW, you do know, you can debloat MS completely! I run one myself, dual booting with one or the other distro.

There seems to be a lot of demand for videos on CachyOS, Bazzite, and Pop!_OS right now (according to my comments section).

I am thinking of doing a quick look review (in the future), but I want to know which one you're most curious about first. I’m running a parallel poll on my YouTube channel too!

Which "gaming" Linux distro should I dive into?

so, i gave @elementary 8.1 a good try. i can safely say that it's still not for me all though i really want to love it. but i can also say that it's the one. it's the release that i think a lot of people have been waiting for. it's great and if you were interested in elementary, you should try it!

it's not for me because elementary has a strong vision of what it wants to be and i happen to need more flexibility than needed. the lack of a clipboard manager is a big issue for me for example. but for the scope of this project, this is a niche issue.

elementary 8.1 is a huge success at being what it wants to be. which is a cohesive, beautifully and consistently designed, accessible os for the average user. it comes packed with everything most people would need and some amazing accessibility features which i believe, are the silent killer feature of this project.

this is an os that deeply cares about its user and it has to be commanded for it. it knows who it wants to target and it doesn't apologize to who it doesn't. the truth is, elementary os is not for a lot of people. if you go out of your way to try plenty of linux distros and write short reviews for them, chances are... it's not for you. no, it's for a silent minority of users that have specific needs that consistently go unaddressed by the wider linux community and projects.

so even if it keeps turning out to not be for me, i want to keep supporting it and keep an eye for it. elementary 8.1 is the release you may have been waiting for, perhaps without knowing it, so give it a try! it's one of the most beautiful and thoughtful project out there.

and if you do, throw a few bucks its way if you can afford to do so. these kinds of projects need all of the help they can get. keep the beauty and accessibility alive. :neobun_heart:

So I was gonna try the latest edition of a Distro this morning, and I decided to do a different one because why are the Sourceforge servers so slow?

It was taking longer to DL a 3 gig ISO than it takes me to download Baldur's Gate 3, and that's just baffling. It's also not hyperbole. It was literally going to take 17 minutes extra to download something less than ⅒ the size.

Okay, installing #postmarketOS on my laptop was mostly painless. The installer has few obvious options, but there's some customization available. The "installer iso" allows you to choose your DE from Gnome, Plasma, XFCE, and Mate, along with a no DE variant.

I got an error message saying the installer failed before I really even got into it, but clicking back and then proceeding allowed me to finish.

I think.

The first boot isn't going well. More than a minute and I'm still on the Plymouth screen. It's a nice screen, but not a particularly useful one.

I'm assuming that this is my fault for proceeding even with errors, though.

Did I just wasted a huge chunk of my day, distrohopping on my desktop out of a complete ADHD impulse only to go back to Bazzite, like, immediately?

...well, that's a very oddly specific question to ask, and I won't answer it. :bunhdgrumpy:

The so-called "Linux Mafia Army" never existed as a real organization—no secret handshakes, no encrypted IRC channels, no penguin enforcers in fedoras. It started as over-the-top satire in obscure forum rants, exaggerating how a handful of popular YouTubers and sites relentlessly push the same safe, affiliate-friendly distros while burying anything outside the Ubuntu/Fedora/Arch orbit under piles of "it's bloat" comments.
The joke took on a life of its own because the pattern felt real enough to sting: coordinated enthusiasm that funnels newcomers into monetized ecosystems, leaving hundreds of quirky, independent projects to gather dust. What began as hyperbolic meme became a shorthand for the quiet gatekeeping that subtly shapes "acceptable" Linux choices.
In the end, it's less a conspiracy and more a reminder that even open source communities aren't immune to echo chambers and incentives.

Tried out TuxedoOS on live USB since Linux Mint wayland integration is going to take awhile still. Loved it. Wondering if there are any downsides to running TuxedoOS on non-tuxedo computer, but I guess not.

Been thinking about Debian too since I've gotten comfortable with it running it on a VPS. Problem is: people keep saying it's a pain to daily drive (and I haven't yet had time to check what they mean with that).
