I don't know if the pedestrian would have been alive had they been hit by a human driver. But this does tell me that autonomous vehicles have a LONG way to go before they can be safely deployed.

I also wonder how #AutonomousVehicles would react to pets and other animals in the street. You or I would brake for a Chihuahua who ran into the road the same as we would for a Great Dane, but would the #DriverlessCar even see the Chihuahua at all? Would it see ANY dog-- or squirrel, or deer, or cat, etc.?

I mean, someone could test that by throwing a big stuffed animal in front of one, I suppose. But I've never heard of it being done.
