Madrid to launch driverless taxis in 2026.

Uber announced that it will deploy autonomous vehicles in the Spanish capital before the end of 2026.

The company is in talks with the Madrid authorities to define the regulatory and operational framework for the service. The aim is for users to be able to request a self-driving car from the app, without anyone at the wheel.

New Names

Ever noticed how they like to invent new names for old things so they can claim they’re a new idea.

Take driverless cars, 40 years ago we just used to say “Forgot to put the handbrake on.”

This "news' came out over a week ago but seemed to go under the radar:

"California’s many Tesla dealerships are now under threat. The head of California’s Department of Motor Vehicles said on Tuesday that if the carmaker does not correct its “misleading” branding of “Autopilot,” Tesla will be blocked from selling cars in the state for 30 days.

DMV Director Steve Gordon told members of the press that an administrative judge had recommended the suspension and that the DMV has opted to give Tesla 90 days from Tuesday to come into compliance. “We want to give them a chance,” Gordon said, “you could argue, one more chance, to be able to remedy the situation.” The judge also suggested a manufacturing pause, but the DMV is opting not to enforce it, Gordon said."

#Traffic #DriverLessCars . . .

After wondering about what #Waymo did to get their cars out of the way the night the lights went out in San Francisco, I finally found the answer:

"As the blackout persisted and the San Francisco Department of Emergency Management urged residents to stay home, Waymo said it temporarily suspended service and directed vehicles to pull over and park so they could be returned to depots in stages."

So, Waymo has the capacity to move their cars out of the way when they block traffic but a #RHB (real human being) has to issue a software command for it to happen.

The robotaxi invasion continues! 🤖 Uber and WeRide just rolled out fully driverless services in Abu Dhabi's Yas Island. Your next ride might just be an algorithm on wheels. Progress, or just another step towards SkyNet's public transport system? What are your thoughts on trusting an AI with your commute?

Waymo Plans Driverless Taxis in London by 2026 Amid Regulatory and Social Challenges

Yo, Waymo's robotaxis sound dope, but London's streets are a mess. If they nail the tech and regs, it could be a game-changer for accessibility. Still, job losses and public pushback are real worries.

Waymo Plans Driverless Taxis in London by 2026 Amid Regulatory and Social Challenges

Dreaming of driverless taxis in London by 2026 sounds great, but this tech's gonna clash hard with the city's chaos and the government’s constant foot-dragging. It’s just another gadgetgeddon pushing workers out without fixing deeper issues of inequality and control.
