Browsing around the collapse-nerd projects this morning on Mastodon reinforces the idea that a web browser and JavaScript is a PC, with a PNG as a floppy. It is a pragmatic choice. Like #CollapseOS vs. #DuskOS , though, I should probably start converting to #LadyBird and #quickjs for longer term.

Resumen:
Nuestra vida cotidiana está absolutamente permeada y atravesada por la tecnología y se sostiene gracias a que se satisfacen muchas condiciones que hoy damos por sentado, como la energía, recursos minerales, cadenas de suministros, etc. ¿Que pasaría si alguno de estos factores que determinan el devenir de la civilización moderna, se interrumpiera o fallara? Algunos autores plantean que la civilización moderna simplemente colapsaría. Collapse OS es un proyecto de un sistema operativo para dispositivos de 8-bits programado en FORTH con la intención de poder reiniciar la tecnología post-colapso, devolviendo la posibilidad de programar micro-controladores y otros dispositivos imprescindibles para la vida moderna, como un panel foto-voltaico, o el riego automático de una huerta. En esta charla presentamos el proyecto, sus argumentos y sus resultados, mirando con el ojo latinoamericano y viendo que preguntas interesantes nos plantea y nos deja, en el marco de nuestra relación con la tecnología.

Spent a little time fiddling in #Tinkercad again this morning. Added the #RaspberryPi mount, some temporary mount points for the screen, and a "nameplate" to the design, printing a 33% to see if the supports will work or if they're a pain. Hopefully they work, it'll keep it a "one and done" print. Will probably skim Starting FORTH over toast while it prints. #DuskOS #LetsGoRetro

Maybe 20 minutes with some cardboard for a mock-up to get a feel for proportions, another 20 minutes with #Tinkercad, snacks, and over to the printer for a 25% print. At 3mm thickness I forgot that the 25% was going to be less than a millimeter thick, but no issues getting it off the base as long as I let it cool down all the way.

No "floppy drive" slot. Going for the feel more than accuracy. Also thinking of a low and wide version that looks more like the Lisa.

I should have printed something for the temporary computer screen.

I'm thinking of finishing the design with no mounting hardware. I built the North Pi case and thought there were some pieces that could have skipped the hardware, and I should put my money where my mouth is, even though I'm clearly no designer.

A wafer thin bend of plastic about 5cm tall with the rake of a modernistic photo frame holds a handwritten piece of paper as a mock computer screen. The paper simply says "ok" in homage to the traditional FORTH programming environment prompt.

I have a paper copy of Brodie's Starting FORTH and have been having fun poking at #DuskOS the last couple of days. Looks like I'm going to have to get my hands dirty.

I really want to build something like this Raspberry Pi "case" to bring the nostalgia full circle.

• add special treatment for double quotes (") and mustache ({) in word parsing logic. This means, for example, that the string literal previously constructed as " foobar" is now constructed as "foobar".
• remove "to" semantics and replace it with Big Moustache.
• remove binary width modulation in favor of moustaches.
