European Investment Bank spending on security and defence quadrupled to €4bn in 2025.

The European Union's lending arm said on Thursday that it expects to spend at least €4 billion on security and defence projects in 2026.

Since 2024, the bank has revised its lending policy several times to allow for greater financing of security and defence as EU member states look at ways to prepare for a possible Russian attack.

ČTK: České firmy v evropském srovnání nadprůměrně využívají nástroje #AI. Zaměřují se zejména na zvýšení vlastní efektivity, vyplývá z průzkumu mezi českými podniky provedeném #EIB. Aby firmy dokázaly trend udržet, budou muset v budoucnu vyřešit nedostatek kvalifikovaných pracovníků, uvedla EIB.

ČTK: #EIB uvolnila #ČR půjčku 5,1 mld. Kč na stavbu Pražského okruhu a 5 mld. Kč na železniční projekty. Půjčka je součást už dříve schváleného financování, na kterém se ČR s EIB dohodla. Celkem by od banky na rozvoj dopravní infrastruktury měla dostat 65 mld. Kč.

€17.5m EIB funding to expand EV charging network in Greece and Cyprus.

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is investing €17.5 million to support Joltie, a Greek electric vehicle (EV) charging company, in expanding its public charging network across Greece and Cyprus.

This funding, backed by the InvestEU programme, aims to install approximately 2,200 new charging points by 2029, enhancing EV infrastructure in the region.

Portugal to start work on its first high-speed rail line.

Work can begin on a new high-speed train line between Lisbon and Porto after the European Investment Bank wrote out a first cheque for €875 million in financing on Tuesday.

The first section of Portugal's first-ever high-speed railway will run south from Porto to the city of Oiã, about a quarter of the way to the capital, Lisbon.
