Microsoft Retires Exchange Server OWA Access to Online Archives

Microsoft’s April 17 announcement that OWA in Exchange Server will not support access to online archives after May 12, 2025, surprised quite a few people. However, the decision is entirely logical and is driven by falling mailbox numbers on-premises and the need to match engineering and support costs with revenue. Outlook classic continues to support access to online archives. Maybe Outlook will be the Exchange on-premises client for the future.

Im Oktober diesen Jahres wird der Exchange Server von Microsoft beerdigt. Es gibt zwar die Subscription Edition, aber die wird kein Erfolg. Zeit, dass man sich nach Alternativen umschaut. Denn niemand will speziell beim Thema Email auf veraltete Technologie setzen. Und da geht es schon los: Was haben wir denn an echten Alternativen? Ach, Exchange Online oder Google Suite? Na, herzlichen Dank. Und nebenbei: Was ist mit Organisationen, die gar nicht in die Cloud gehen können?

Nachdem das Thema Exchange Server ziemlich durch ist, muss ich mich in Sachen Cloud Support ja irgendwie allmählich neu aufstellen. Jetzt schaue ich mich also um, was denn dann so in mein Interessenfeld kommt, was mir zusagt und so weiter und so fort. Jetzt ist das Leben kein Wunschkonzert, und meine Tätigkeit muss sich natürlich auch am Bedarf orientieren. Und so frage ich mich tatsächlich, inwieweit es tatsächlich zu einer Neuaufstellung kommt.

Das Exchange Server Ende naht nun. Für viele wird eine Welt zu Ende gehen, für andere ist es eine Erleichterung. Die Diva kommt zur Ruhe. Wann immer ich mit meinen Kunden über dieses Serverprodukt von Microsoft rede, kommen wir überein, dass sich der Exchange Server immer extrem zickig hat. Ja, man tut förmlich so, als wäre ein Stück Serversoftware etwas ähnliches wie ein Mensch. Ich finde das immer witzig. Und nun – exakt 1 Jahr, bevor der bisherige Exchange Server eingestampft wird – frage ich mich, worüber man künftig frotzeln wird.

Hot on the heels of the previous update, today we released yet another version of ChronoLink Connector for Outlook, our add-in for connecting to Microsoft #ExchangeServer.

Unlike previous versions, this one does not cause the #Outlook UI to become unresponsive for several seconds during sync connection runs.

We just released a new version of our #Outlook add-in to connect to Microsoft #ExchangeServer.

The software will now automatically recover after losing its connection to the ChronoLink servers.

(Most of the time, this happens due to #MicrosoftWindows killing connections whenever users enabled or disabled a company VPN. 🤷)

Any #exchangeserver admins out there? Can anyone provide a link or clarity on what Status “Unapplied” means for an email address policy? I think it just means possibly unapplied changes have been made to the policy. One of our admins thinks it means not in use.
