Macho Nacho published a video today about the new VMU Pro (Dreamcast) from the same folks that made the MemCard Pro GC. This reminds me how excited I am to finally test out and build something for the MemCard Pro GC once I install my FlippyDrives... I've been sitting on this device for quite a while now!

I mentioned yesterday that a magazine supplement can be just as much work as a regular magazine.
Well this is a good example.

This "supplement" is full sized and 60 pages thick. 😅

Does anyone know which Nintendo Official Magazine issue this belongs to btw?

*edit*
I found which issues it’s from. It’s nr.128

The middle 4 pages are sadly missing though.
I think it must have been a poster as the listing continues on, so these were not regular pages.

So, a game I remember being very middle of the road was Star Wars: The Clone Wars released in 2002/2003 on all home consoles of the time.

The Clone Wars isn't a bad game, but I feel it doesn't really do anything particularly special, and because of that, I am actually really struggling to talk about it. It's not like Bounty Hunter, which felt like it promised us the world and under-delivered. I will get to that one day, not this month, though.

The on-foot sections are somewhat trash in this game, so graciously, we only have about 4 in total, and they only make up a fraction of the missions they are in. Flying the troop transport is a bit odd as well, I found droid fighters would collide with me, and I'd come out worse for wear.
A lot of your time will be spent circle strafing in a tank, escorting or protecting mission critical allies, and probably feeling a bit meh about the whole experience.

As I said, it's not bad. But just painfully okay.

So, I mentioned a few days ago that I bought a game that "...doesn't fully work - it won't go past the first loading screen after the title." Well, after trying it a couple of times it does, in fact, run... for the first mystery before crashing again and I'm 99% certain that at least one voice clip didn't play correctly.

But it ran despite the scratches on the disc.

Also, I never owned this Scooby-Doo game when I was younger. That honor belongs to Scooby-Doo Mystery on the SNES.

Scooby-Doo! Mystery Mayhem on the Nintendo GameCube... or the case, anyways. It was never in my collection until last week and it took some patience to get it to run until the first mystery was completed. That's when it crashed again, and I didn't get to save.

I'd say it looks good enough for what it is but it's through an AV to HDMI converter that instantly makes the image widescreen, so that might have skewed it a bit. But it looks good for what it is and when it was released. The gameplay is simple enough - you plays as Scooby and Shaggy. You obtain a Grimoire that can trap ghosts via Ghostbuster Trap style and use that to trap actual ghosts. Non-ghosts pretending can't get trapped. The game keeps the spirit of the original Scooby-Doo Where Are You? series, laugh track and everything. The controls are simple enough after a while, but movement is a bit... stiff, I guess you can call it.

I suspect this game came out before Shaggy was converted to Vegetarianism - longish story that I probably have wrong anyways. I think it was Shaggy's original voice actor agreeing to reenter the role if Shaggy was a Vegetarian. Don't quote me on that. The disc for Scooby-Doo! Mystery Mayhem. Notice the lack of instruction manual: when I bought this game from the specialist resale store, the store owners didn't get the instruction manual so I had to figure the controls out by the Options menu in-game before starting the game.

The biggest problem is that the backside is scratched up. As in, quite a few scratches. I suspect that said scratches are what's causing the game to crash. The first crash was before the first loading screen could finish, and the second one was before the intro video played - a 3D version of the Scooby-Doo Where Are You? theme. The third crash was after I made solved the first mystery of... however many are in the game.

But the game will run as is, given some patience, so I can say I've played the game, now. Along that line, trying to actually BEAT the game might prove significantly harder than it's worth.

I bought this “tested and working” OEM Gamecube controller from eBay. I immediately cleaned it and tested it out. It doesn’t work.

The left analog stick doesn’t register up and down. Looks like I’ll be sending this one back :luigisad:
