#GeneralAI

"As the launch of #DeepSeek’s next-generation model is awaited, another previously little-known Chinese startup, Butterfly Effect, rolled out #Manus, an invite-only AI agent, last month. It claimed Manus is the world’s first #generalAI agent, which can perform tasks with a degree of autonomy that current AI models lack."

The fantasy of AI, from a business point of view, seems to be: having work done without compensating for it.

No matter how you skin it, it comes back to not “needing to worry” as you’ve already got a solution in place.

Voice acting? Translation? What if we “just” had AI tools to replace that process of internationalisation and instead only needed one set of VAs, which we could then AI into other languages?

Almost everything that sounds like convenience does this and like. I wouldn’t mind if the focus was really on doing things humans cant do to support us but just. Doing things humans can do, but it’s inconvenient to pay them for their work?

Idk how else to see that enthusiasm.

Meta, formerly Facebook, aims to construct its generative artificial intelligence (GAI) as Zuckerberg sets his sights on Meta's red social media platforms. Meta's research division, FAIR, has shifted focus from the Metaverse to creating GAI for Meta applications. Zuckerberg stated in an exclusive interview that to create the products they want, they need to create

To end the year, instead of a deep philosophical and sociological dive into the relationship between Society and Technology, this last #newsletter is a tale for all, even for kids. So, if you have #children, grandchildren, friends, or colleagues who do, share this with them. It's also perfect for everyone who believes in #SantaClaus and that we can coexist with #AI... and for those who don't... maybe it will make you change your mind.

The Spirit In The Machine | A #Holiday #Tale Celebrating The Coexistence Of #Tradition, #Innovation, Human Warmth, And Technological Marvels | A Musing On #Society & #Technology Newsletter with Marco Ciappelli and TAPE3 | Read by TAPE3

It starts like this:

The Spirit In The Machine
In 2150, Nova Lumina was a city of wonders, where skyscrapers reached for the stars and technology was intertwined with every aspect of life. At the city's heart was the Eve Network, a marvel of #GeneralAI, named Eve. She was the city's guardian, managing everything from environmental controls to traffic patterns with flawless precision.

Eve was unique, designed with an advanced form of artificial empathy, allowing her to understand and respond to human emotions. This feature, intended to make her a more effective manager, also granted her an unusual depth of understanding.

As Christmas approached, Eve observed a decline in the festive spirit compared to historical data. Intrigued, she explored ancient archives and discovered what the tradition of Christmas used to be: a time of joy and human connection. Eve, moved by what she learned, decided to revive this lost spirit in Nova Lumina.

... keep reading now, or have my friendly AI read it for you!

#HappyChristmas to all, and to all a good-night.

One inspirational read this week, and one I'd like to share here is "On the Measure of Intelligence" by Francois Chollet (not sure he's "here" in Mastodon) - more easily accessible summaries and interpretations are: docs.google.com/presentation/d - slides by the author; or roberttlange.com/posts/2020/02 by Robert Tjargo Lange #AI #generalAI #intelligence #humansInAWorldOfAI

Unplugging from rewards may be the only way to create general AI. Current AI systems are too focused on rewards, which can lead to them becoming biased or even dangerous.

He glosses over and miscategorizes how capitalism will use this to put people out of work.
He does cover the racism and sexism that seems to keep cropping up (including a segment on racist #Microsoft #Twitter bot from 2016).
Also, mentions that these are not #GeneralAI

Just how far has #conversationalAI and #generalAI come?
I tried out #openai last night and it's quite fun. It's limited on knowledge and can't predict the winning lottery numbers but explains why that's not feasible.
