Washington.- El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, presentó este domingo la edición 2025 de los premios del Centro Kennedy, en un acto marcado por sus comentarios directos hacia los asistentes y por el cambio de rumbo que su Gobierno impulsa en la institución cultural.
Trump, que tras su retorno al poder en enero asumió también la presidencia del Centro Kennedy, ha emprendido junto a su Administración una ofensiva para rehacer tanto la programación como la gestión del prestigioso recinto, que en los últimos meses ha afrontado numerosos despidos. Esta es la primera vez en la historia del centro artístico que un presidente encabeza la ceremonia.
El mandatario aseguró haber decidido «prácticamente solo» los ganadores de esta edición de los Kennedy Center Honors como parte de su estrategia para devolver «la grandeza» al espacio y poner fin, según dijo, a la programación y los contenidos «woke» (progresistas).
Durante su intervención, Trump proclamó que «el Centro Kennedy ha vuelto y será más grande y mejor que nunca», al destacar su labor en la recaudación de fondos desde su llegada al cargo.

En su discurso, el mandatario vinculó la persistencia de los homenajeados —Michael Crawford, Gloria Gaynor, la banda KISS, Sylvester Stallone y George Strait— con un mensaje dirigido al público.
«Hay un hilo que conecta a estos tres artistas increíbles y es la persistencia… Muchos de ustedes son personas horribles y miserables, pero nunca se rinden… un compromiso inquebrantable con la excelencia absoluta… Todos han superado enormes obstáculos», afirmó.
Trump también recurrió a referencias cinematográficas al citar a Rocky Balboa, el icónico personaje interpretado por Stallone.
«Nos mostraron que hay que seguir avanzando. Solo seguir avanzando», dijo. Y recordó una de las líneas de la película: «Se trata de ganar; si sigues avanzando, así es como se gana”» Añadió que los homenajeados «saben cómo atravesar el infierno» y encarnan el espíritu de los «grandes ganadores».

Los Kennedy Center Honors son uno de los máximos reconocimientos culturales de Estados Unidos y se celebran de forma ininterrumpida desde 1978 en el Kennedy Center de Washington D. C., normalmente con cinco homenajeados cada año.
Nacidos como una gala anual en diciembre, distinguen a figuras de la música, la danza, el teatro, la ópera, el cine y la televisión por el conjunto de su carrera y su impacto en la vida cultural del país, con un fuerte peso de artistas estadounidenses pero también con espacio para creadores extranjeros estrechamente vinculados a esa escena.
A lo largo de las décadas han sido galardonados nombres como Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Aretha Franklin, Stevie Wonder, Tina Turner, The Who, Led Zeppelin, U2, Henry Fonda, Lucille Ball, Meryl Streep, Steven Spielberg, George Lucas o Bruce Springsteen, así como instituciones culturales como el teatro Apollo o el musical “Hamilton”.

Amarillo by Morning by the great George Strait is a song that instantly makes me think of my hometown, Houston, TX. It even mentions Houston in the lyrics, but it's about a rodeo star traveling to different cities and experiencing different things. I guess what really makes me think of Houston when it comes to this song is just George in general is associated with the rodeo and the rodeo was a huge thing there and something I went and say a lot of times during my 35 years there.
