i wish windows had as useful an image viewer as #gwenview
just wish it wasn't tied to dolphin so when you sort in one you sort in the other. that's kinda annoying.

Testing out #Nix on #SteamOS/#SteamDeck, and so far so good! It's been helpful in getting any of the missing non-graphical packages I need, such as to install and get my #KDE/#Dolphin service menu working (https://github.com/irfanhakim-as/kde-service-menu-reimage) - where I needed a couple of missing deps like #ImageMagick and #Exiftool.
Most of the graphical apps I need are easily found/installable on #Flatpak though, except something like #Alacritty. I previously installed it on this system using #Distrobox and it worked great, I thought to test installing a graphical app off of Nix - but it doesn't seem that worked with Alacritty. From my search it's something to do with GL/Vulkan apps outside of #NixOS or something of the like. There were also some apps that aren't available as Flatpaks, are available on #ArchLinux 's #AUR, but aren't available on Nix.
There will also be things that don't work too, I think for reasons that may be obvious to others, such as adding HEIC support to KDE apps like Dolphin (for previews) and #Gwenview (for image viewing). On a 'normal' Linux system, this is done by installing libheif and kimageformats (pretty sure u need both). Installing them on this SteamOS machine tho off of Nix, doesn't really help the system's Dolphin and Gwenview app to be able to serve/open HEIC files.
Still, I know I'm just barely scratching the surface of what I could do with Nix - even as just a 'package manager'. I understand why maybe #Valve is holding themselves back from pre-installing Nix for now tho (unlike something like #Podman or #Distrobox, which they were surprisingly - in a good way, happy to do) bcos the situation with the Nix project, atm, is a lil confusing.. but as recommended by others on here, I think I'm having a good luck/time with the #Lix project's 'flavour' of Nix.

Something that #Okular does that I FREAKING LOVE ๐ is having the
`File -> Open Containing Folder`
menu option.
Absolute gold, @tsdgeos and team. I'd **love** that in many others like #Krita, #Gwenview... and thousands of non-KDE apps too!
It is very very useful, even if hidden in a menu. Makes it very easy to find related stuff... or simply just to find wherever you put that in.
Preparing scripts to bump KDE gear libraries/applications, this has been in my todo list for quite some time. For the KDE frameworks this already works fine.
First draft looking promising, now need to fine-tune/add what's missing.
So far already up to 178 packages. :)

I've installed the old #Oxygen style on #bazzite via rpm-ostree:
rpm-ostree install oxygen-cursor-themes oxygen-sounds plasma-oxygen-qt5 plasma-oxygen-qt6 oxygen-fonts oxygen-icon-theme oxygen-mono-fonts oxygen-sans-fonts plasma-oxygen
It's way better to use then Breeze for #touchscreens - i also use it on #SteamOS on my #SteamDeck
I also switched for #konsole, #okular and #gwenview to #Fedora packages. This works much better for remote volumes than the #flatpak versions:
flatpak remove okular gwenview konsole; rpm-ostree install okular gwenview konsole
Wednesday morning was going great until I realized I don't actually have a project ready to go today. But, if you don't mind the delay, I shall be starting in ~45 minutes (around 8:30 UTC), with some issues on #KDE #Gwenview to fixโand you are more than welcome to join my stream! (:

Hmmm...I wonder if the new Plasma update fixes the Gwenview Annotations. Because Annotations now work just fine in KDE Plasma 6.4.0. Icon size still an issue for sure, but no big deal
Buttons inside Gwenview's Annotations used to be not working properly back then for no reason, and now am happy it's working again
After I connected a Nikon camera to the USB port, the Gwenview import dialogue box opened and made it easy to import all the Nikon raw (.nef) files on KDE.
Gwenview is a fast and easy to use image viewer by KDE, ideal for browsing and displaying a collection of images.

#KDE apps love breaking/hanging once a mounted storage (i.e. remote share) is no longer accessible - even after you've unmounted it (after the fact).
This includes #Dolphin and #Gwenview (I'm sure there's more). Everything you do from that point on just hangs, forever and requires terminating the app. This ofc isn't an issue on #Windows (as far as I'm aware)/#macOS (nothing hangs or affected by it, it just reminds you to unmount it with the click of a button) - surely there's a fix for this on #Linux?
It's funny how mounting all sorts of storage options is our strength (on Linux), and yet it's also one of our biggest weakness when it comes to 'user-friendliness' - it's easy to miss as a long time Linux user, and yet still obvious. It was most obvious when a lot of people started hopping on to #SteamOS/#SteamDeck.
A lot of things on Linux def no longer needs terminal/any 'special' technical knowledge, but mounting storage? Get ready to mess with fstab and updating mount permissions at least, if not also your boot options. Fortunately, formatting or partitioning a drive does not require the terminal (for the most part), but you also can't do so right from your file manager - needing a separate, dedicated app.
@razze Can #Gwenview display them? I think so?
Also have you tried #imagemagick or #graphicsmagick? There might even be a #KDE Context menu entry to batch convert them.
Gwenview can even display Sony RAW images.
#Gwenview is a fast and easy to use image viewer.
#Krita is the full-featured digital art studio for creating digital paintings.
#DigiKam is an advanced digital photo management application.
#Showfoto is a fast image editor with powerful image editing tools and the standalone image editor of the DigiKam project.
#KPhotoAlbum is an application for tagging and managing photo collections and making it searchable.
#OptiImage allows you to optimize your images.
Yet another #KDE tool I rely on has somehow become broken/unusable :)) RIGHT WHEN I GOT BACK #Kdenlive TOO (after months of not being able to launch the app)!! This time it's #Gwenview's Annotate feature, which I've already always found rather janky with how it has to open a whole 'nother window just to edit, and that window always opens ridiculously tiny for wtv reason - this time a tool's set of toolbar, all just do nothing. #GIMP it is I guess eventho I only wish to do something incredibly minor.
#linux #wayland #gwenview
So apparently my Gwenview Annotate is broken, I can't find other Image viewer that has annotate similar to Gwenview. And this seemed to be a better workaround for that...
