Today’s project in the shop is making screws. This is an M3-0.5 screw, about a half-inch long. The nut got chewed up holding it in the vise, which is fine, since it will be embedded in epoxy. And worst case, I can make one new nut.
I’ll need to hammer heads onto the brass stock first, since that process would wreck the threads, and I’ll probably make 8, since I need 4 good finished ones, and cutting the slot in the head (after threading) is a risky operation (pic 2). #MetalWorking #HandTools

Hand tools vent. Maybe this will save someone some grief and #expense if they find it with a search.
Wiha - great drivers & bits. Love 'em. Well-machined, good tough tool #steel.
But their needlenose pliers? Rubbish. I have a set of full-sized needlenose, plus their "micro" set. With both of them there's too much slop in the joint, so the jaws are never quite aligned. I don't recall if they were bad right out of the packaging, but I certainly noticed it within the first handful of usages. I have the full sized "standard" / linesman-type pliers as well, but you don't tend to notice slop because of the much shorter jaws.
Wiha's micro-needlenose pliers are no better than - or even noticeably worse than - #cheap #Chinesium ones I have.
Save your money.

Would it be considered weird, if someone brought home three (3) old yankee screwdrivers from the thrift store?
Asking for a friend. 😬
I decided to add a pullout bottom to the firewood box so it’s easy to clean (inspired by @GustavinoBevilacqua ). When it’s closed up, you don’t notice it’s there (unless you’re looking closely). It’s pretty much done, except for the hours of card scraping and finishing. #woodworking #handtools
Started working on a small cherry firewood box for the home. Almost ready to start with the joinery after completing the prep of the panels. I’m going to go with mortises and tenons for this one. I thought about through tenons, but think I’ll just go with hidden joints here. This will have curved sides, which will be fun to make. #woodworking #handtools
After multiple times of wanting to use the plough plane and getting into the problem illustrated in the first picture, I finally invested two evenings and made an adjustable jig to hold slim stock for plough planing. Robert Weaving calls this a "sticking board" in his book "The Solution at Hand"; an additional nail through the planing stop to hold the stock in place is optional.

Completed the outdoor shoe rack, looks much nicer than the plastic tray we were using before — finally thought of something interesting to do with the small piece of teak taking up room in my shop. #woodworking #handtools
Taking on a smaller, fun project: using a small slab of teak I picked up at an offcut sale many years ago to make an outdoor mat for shoes and boots. #handtools #woodworking
Completed the hallway linen closet door. The top and bottom are open for airflow, as it’s used for bedding. Most interesting parts to me are the repurposed chair top used for the curve, embedded magnets to keep it closed, and I cut the grooves in the frame to house the cherry plywood panels by hand with as small as a lip as possible (about 1/8th of an inch). #handtools #woodworking
Cutting the mortises for the hinges to hang the closest door I’m making. I always find this process a bit frightening. #woodworking #handtools
Working on a long, narrow door to cover a narrow closet in our house where we keep sheets for bedding. The closet has a curved top. I’m using parts of a chair I got at a thrift store that perfectly matches this curve and plan to veneer it. We want to allow for air flow so this seems like a good solution. #handtools #woodworking
Breaking down a sheet of cherry plywood with hand tools isn’t easy, but it’s mostly figuring out how to hold the work in place. #woodworking #handtools
I completed my midcentury cherry cabinet, made with zero power tools. Here it is in place. The top sides are half blind dovetails, the base full dovetails. The door panels are 3/8 inch thick and slide along grooves. I’m pleased with how it turned out. #woodworking #handtools
One of the sliding doors are fit in the mid-century cabinet project, one more to go and then on to the feet. #handtools #woodworking
Years ago, a friend gave me an old wooden filing cabinet that was missing one of its side panels. Yesterday, I finally got around to converting it into a mobile tool caddy I can easily move around the shop. #woodworking #handtools
I finished resawing the boards for one of the doors for the cabinet - I’m guessing this would take less than an hour or so with a bandsaw? It took me most of the day. I used a ryoba saw and had excellent results. My arm is spent. #woodworking #handtools
