🚨 $IDN 🚨
Why is Intellicheck, Inc. trending today? 🤔
tl;dr :
- env. 4 215 000 domaines enregistrés dans .fr au 31 décembre 2024
- 19,8% des domaines signés avec #DNSSEC (≈ 835 000). Chiffre pudiquement qualifié de « modeste ».
- 31646 #IDN enregistrés, soit ≈ 0,75% du total. Ridiculement bas

Hello. For a #DNS course I am looking for examples of working #IDN domain names, ideally that have a website on it to show to students. I have difficulties to find some. Any idea ? cc @bortzmeyer @shaft
Apparently @protonprivacy Mail does not work with IDN-enabled addresses - web client calls them "invalid" :blobcatumm:
But if you rewrite IDN domain (repečka.com
) to punycode (xn--repeka-l2a.com
) manually, :protonmail: is able to deliver.
@Aakerbeere
Was ist an dem Link https://email.m.teachable.com/c/… "einigermaßen gut"? 🤔
Ein "Homographischer Angriff" (engl. "IDN homograph attack") wäre wohl eher mindestens "einigermaßen gut", weil man da doch am ehesten noch drauf reinfällt…
@bagder For once, you write wrong things. Just one: the "crazy" example you show is disallowed since IDN does not allow many of these characters: https://www.afnic.fr/en/observatory-and-resources/expert-papers/can-emojis-be-used-in-a-domain-name/
ugh… like seriously? https://github.com/bluesky-social/social-app/pull/7043
This is from BlueSky's side (their own set of issues), but does Mastodon/AP need this too? 🤔

So ein #IDN hat seine Tücken... :-)
The interview mentioned Magalleria, a (web)shop specialized in independent magazines: https://store.magalleria.co.uk/
Their webshop led me to indie magazines Offscreen (tech and society), IdN (graphic design) and Pressing Matters (printmaking) 😍

Just in case you think parsing #email for suspicious links is easy, this is from the latest active #SpamAssassin bug.

@jezdez I think the #idN might be for duplicate headers?
For example, these are both "sqlite3" headers:
The fact that @signalapp has been closing all error reports about unclickable links when using internationalized domain names for years is really annoying. Solutions to protect against #IDN homograph attacks, which have repeatedly been cited as the reason for the rejections, have been around for a long time (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IDN_homograph_attack#Defending_against_the_attack). 😞
