For anyone following along on my thrilling #DNS experiments… I’m now testing @mullvadnet’s encrypted DNS, which is offered in a few different flavors:
- regular (no blockers)
- blocks ads & trackers
- blocks above + malware sites
- blocks above + social media
- blocks above + adult & gambling
So far, all ads blocked! And the service is free, much like basic AdGuard DNS (which I'm used to). Also Mullvad is a solid, trustworthy company from everything I've read.
Only downside for me is this service is not customizable at all — so you cannot have custom allow-lists, for example. There are a tiny number of services I do need to use that, for whatever reason, are sometimes included in these blocking lists. So, yes, I do want the most robust BLOCK EVERYTHING DNS *except* for just a couple things. <tiptoes out of the room>
(Next, I will test ControlD for this reason.)

I’ve been using @nextdns for a few days now. It’s impressively easy to set up. But… for my main use case (ad blocking), it’s not as consistent as AdGuard DNS. Many ads are getting through — even though NextDNS claims to use AdGuard DNS’s own block list. (It’s an option; I have it enabled.)
Anyway now I’m confused why the service that should be blocking MORE is actually blocking LESS.

Wydarzenia z ostatnich miesięcy pokazały nam, że fakt, iż większość technologicznej infrastruktury zależy od USA jest... ryzykowny. Na szczęście Europa "zbroi się" - ostatnio wzbogaciła sie o DNS4EU, resolver #DNS działających w ramach naszego kontynentu, który ma być częścią czegoś większego. Polacy też mają w tym udział!

Mag sein, die Daten könnten bei ihnen sicher sein, aber warum wollen sie ALLE Daten von mir und nicht nur das nötigste an Daten? Und warum wollen sie meine Daten verkaufen, und sind die dann noch immer sicher?
Wer glaubt eigentlich was einem in jeglicher #Werbung vermittelt werden soll?
Also bei mir wird auf #DNS Ebene alles von PayPal geblockt.
