...and speaking of odd fridges of yesteryear, there was an episode of The Honeymooners date stamped 1956 ("Please Leave The Premises") where Ralph and Alice were kicked out from their apartment onto the street because Ralph refused to pay for the rent increase...and their curious refrigeration device was out on the street with their furniture.
It was a 1930s-40s era ICE BOX. In 1956? ya gotta be kiddin' me! but it's likely part of the visual inference that the rent there was very low to begin with.
