A more interesting example are most of Danny Beer’s skate edits: There, I don’t think I would like the music on its own if it was not connected to the skating.

But the skating looks like so much fun, daring, silly, full of raw energy — it’s infectious! ⚡
I do think that the music contributes to this vibe, though.

I think some music mostly motivates me because I associate it with something else, specifically skate edits.

The best example is probably the music from my most favourite edit of all time:

It's been tough days for #InlineSkating in #NYC for a week plus. The cold not so much but the slush and crud on the streets, OMG. Anyhow, we got in a 10-mile roll on Sunday 2/1 afternoon and arrived home safe and intact. Woot!

Wow, our #Strava feed suddenly got thin. #NYC skaters aren't rolling because street conditions suck, even though some we know would roll in these temperatures if the roads were dry.

Meanwhile, some other folks we follow down under in Aussie are dealing with temperatures that are +100°F higher! OMG!

It was 15°F Tuesday night, but Empire's Tuesday Night Skate rolled to Red Hook!

(We were not with them, because OMG 15°F!)

As cold and as windy as it was Thursday night, we encountered three other people #InlineSkating the WSBP. Hard core.

Windy AF, but Sunday was such a beauitiful day for #InlineSkating #NYC, We rolled to #RedHook #Brooklyn. Missed the cruise ship sailing, but always good to see the Liberty Gal when the sky is clean.

Updated intro post…

Hola, skaters!

The Empire Skate Club of New York has been #InlineSkating #NYC since 1997.

Our biggest, most organized activity every year is the Big Apple Roll, 4-5 days of group skating the first weekend of August, including the massive BAR Friday Night Skate

We also sponsor Tuesday Night Skate, NYC's oldest weekly #GroupSkate; sponsor an inline #speedskating team; and do weekend group skates.

Check out our website or socials for more. empireskate.org

It may be the depths of winter (which, what, it was about 50°F on Wednesday), but the NYC #GroupSkate folk are in full swing. We met up with members of the Winter Wednesday Night Skate (not the Official WNS) when they finished their roll, and they had a nice-sized group.

Hola, #NYC #InlineSkating folk. Happy New Year!

In case you hadn't heard, there's a new (okay, a few months old now) skate shop in town. It's small, but it's an honest-to-god skate shop.

The store is Mercado, on Clinton just barely north of Delancey. Despite the small size, they have a variety of skate brands on the shelf, including Rollerblade, Them, and Micro.

Skated to Red Hook hoping to watch the Queen Mary 2 set sail. But damn, it's down to 15-minute or less intervals. She was still docked at the Brooklyn Cruise at sunset. I was freezing while hanging about Valentino Pier and after 20+ minutes bailed the scene. She cast off about another 20 minutes later.

Sigh. It's so cool to be on Valentino Pier when one of the big ships passes by in frisbee range. But not Saturday.

Despite fears about the weather during the final week of the year, I just reached my distance goal for 2025, hitting 5200 miles (100 miles/week) as I rolled past Pier 76 on the WSBP Wed afternoon.

Actually, my original goal was 3650 miles. I skated so much the last half of summer that I blew past that number in September and had to come up with a new goal. Just made it.

Skated 195 days of 2025, coming up 3 sessions short of my record set back in 2019.

Screenshot of a Google Earth map showing NYC and nearby with many many lines marking skate routes. Manhattan is pretty well covered except for some open area on the UES and Inwood. Northern Brooklyn also well covered but there's a long track down to Coney Island. Not much in Queens except one roll to the Unisphere. Also not much in Brooklyn, but hey a route extending northward from VCP along the Empire State Trail. And there's one route over the GWB and up to the stateline.Screenshot of a Google Earth map showing NW Columbia County and SW Rensselaer County, NY. There are skate activity tracks extending from Hudson up to East Greenbush, muchly on the AH Electric Trail, but also rolling in the countryside west of Valatie plus one route from Chatham to Valatie.

I hadn't expected to get a skate in today, but because the temperature didn't get anywhere near freezing during the daylit hours, that meant the only serious snow melt or slush on the roads near Kinderhook was on heavily used roads (cough US 9) and at some intersections. Didn't roll a marathon like I wanted to do, but close enough.

52 miles to reach my goal for the year. Could be tight because it's supposed to be windy AF when I get back to NYC tomorrow.

There is 6 or 7 inches of snow to the sides but the road itself is clear and just some spots that are a bit damp.Photo of a country road in NW Columbia county curbing off to the right, with bare apple trees in a distant orchard straight ahead.. Happy end-of-year holidays, #NYC skate peeps. We hope you've accomplished your #InlineSkating goals for the year. If not, then that you're very very close to doing so, because the weather the next few days will make it difficult to skate much more.

Looks like its 2 (TWO!) #NYC #GroupSkate's to the Dyker Heights neighborhood Christmas lights fantasia this week!

Empire's own Tuesday Night Skate rolls there TONIGHT, departs Manhattan Grand Army (Fifth@60th) at 8 p.m.

Then Wednesday is the aforementioned Winter Wednesday Night Skate, departing from Triona's on Third (at 17th) at 7 p.m. (An HOUR EARLY!)

It's a long roll there and back, but there's an R train station near-by in Bay Ridge for peeps who want to get home faster.

And Friday night's skate to the Battery and back made it 5000 miles of for me in 2025.

Not shown here are the miles I've rolled up north on the AH Electric Trail and close by.

Tonight's Empire Holiday Spirit #GroupSkate has been postponed due to the rain. It will instead take place tomorrow, 12/11, starting from Triona's on Third Ave at 8 p.m.

Also in the holiday spirit, there is a non-Empire group skate Friday evening, meeting up 6:30 at the Columbus Circle entrance to Central Park. Theme is locations from the Home Alone 2 movie.
