Another pleasant discovery in my neighborhood yesterday. Defonte’s has been an institution in Red Hook for over a hundred years, family-run since 1922, and served me one of the best Italian sandwiches I’ve ever had. I’m kicking myself for not knowing about it earlier. We yearn for travel adventures, but sometimes serendipity strikes at home when you just leave your routine paths and turn left instead of right.

This sign has clearly been here for years, but today is the first time I’ve seen it, even though I’ve lived in this neighborhood for decades. It’s wonderful that even the places you think you’re most familiar with can still surprise you.

Windy AF, but Sunday was such a beauitiful day for #InlineSkating #NYC, We rolled to #RedHook #Brooklyn. Missed the cruise ship sailing, but always good to see the Liberty Gal when the sky is clean.

Skated to Red Hook hoping to watch the Queen Mary 2 set sail. But damn, it's down to 15-minute or less intervals. She was still docked at the Brooklyn Cruise at sunset. I was freezing while hanging about Valentino Pier and after 20+ minutes bailed the scene. She cast off about another 20 minutes later.

Sigh. It's so cool to be on Valentino Pier when one of the big ships passes by in frisbee range. But not Saturday.

Tough day of #InlineSkating on Sunday. It was my 24th day in a row of rolling and thigh muscles and quads are a wasteland, the temperature had warmed up (but thank goddess the humidity wasn't up), and I missed the Miraviglia passing by Valentino Pier in #RedHook by maybe 15 minutes even though I got there just before cruisemapper said she was supposed to sail.

Later on, I found the Breakaway docked at the Manhattan terminal an hour-plus after cruisemapper said she was supposed to depart.

Idyllic day of livemusic in the park. The perfect confluence of people, vibe, weather, and, of course, the music - provided by the Cordero/Kerlin Group and the Elkhorn Trio. There were at least 3 other legit shows going on in town this afternoon, but I think this was the winner. Freaks Day Out!
