This article also discusses making home-made weed killer from vinegar and soap, but be careful when applying it... Don't apply to flowering plants, and apply at night after the bees have gone home.

#EcoFriendly and #EnvironmentallyFriendly #WeedKiller: Does It Exist?

By Stephanie Osmanski
Updated July 20 2020,

Excerpt:
"Another eco-friendly alternative to weed killer is enlisting the help of animal friends. Good for the environment and entirely non-toxic, goats can scarf down any unwanted weeds from #kudzu, #OrientalBittersweet, and #ailanthus to #MultifloraRosa, #JapaneseHoneysuckle, and mile-a-minute.

"In fact, some companies — such as #Ecogoats and #GoatsEatWeeds — even rent out goats to homeowners that want eco-friendly help controlling their unwanted noxious weeds. Because a goat’s least favorite food is grass, a goat will eat everything else first before munching on your lawn."

Planned to place the sprinkler hose behind the logs along the fence & then spotted these on the other side … not optimal.
All berry bushes are alive & kicking, but lots of the blackberry branches froze in Nov. Only to cut back😥

It’s a weird little swampy bit, full of what many would call #InvasiveWeeds. Yet it’s beautiful in its way and full of #diversity. I spotted dock, fennel, wild lettuce, wild radish, plantain, clover, endemic Solander’s geranium, sow thistle, and lots more, which I chucked into #iNaturalist. Now we’ve got this new independent grocery store just 400m from home, I think I’ll be down this way a lot more, so I’ll keep an eye on the spot. #ballarat #BallaratEast #SpecimenVale #wetlands #nativeplants

A swampy spot, or seasonal wetland, along the Specimen Creek path in Ballarat East. Picture shows a broad view with a mixture of low-lying herbs and grasses in the foreground, the shimmer of a few square metres of water in the middle distance, and native and introduced trees in the background. A gravel path runs away from the viewer on the right of the picture.A different angle of the water, with grass seed-heads in the background and trees and sky reflected in a small pool.Solander’s geranium, a kind of cranesbill or hardy geranium which are a separate genus from the “geraniums” (actually pelargoniums) people grow on their windowsill. The leaves are very fine and delicate, and there’s a tiny pale pink flower, about 1cm across, with five petals and yellow stamen at the centre.

This 1985 map showing the recorded distribution of pampas grasses in New Zealand's exotic forests and the degree of infestation compared with the #iNaturalist distribution today is sad and bloody terrifying.

"As yet, no records of pampas in forests south of Nelson."

More #PhoenixPalms in a playground area today. Wild seedlings are coming up in the bark around the playground and in the surrounding gardens.
