I installed KDE Linux in a VM to have a poke around.
Seems like the default Breeze theme has "Windows Decorations --> Shadows and Outline --> Outline Intensity' removed?
Why, why you do dat?!
This is v6.6 (vs 6.3 on Debian and FreeBSD).
Can we get it back?
@rob ha. i can see your point. i have a slight twist though on your theory. in my case, i did not reach a point recently of choosing :linuxdebian: , but instead decided that i am now too old fat & lazy to still "enjoy" needing to do the various little bits & pieces to keep my :archlinux: all ticketyboo, so decided to go #immutable #atomic for a quieter life. hence, lappy now is single-boot Kinoite, & tower is now triple-boot Kinoite / ArchLinux / SparkyLinux. so my details are different, but i think i do get the essence of your sentiment, & agree. fwiw.

@pheonix but did it really?
Windows 11's hardware requirements sent millions of perfectly functional CPUs to the landfill
ofc for months & years leading up to Oct 2025, lots of pundits were predicting this would happen. however we are now past that date, so when i see peeps still repeating the old prospective claim, my desire for objectivity kicks in. do we have actual factual evidence that the terrible hardware armageddon did happen? ๐ค๐คทโโ๏ธ

in recent days, in my Lappy's Kinoite [but not also in my Tower's Kinoite], two of my important apps, installed as #flatpaks (coz... #immutable #atomic system), have gone bonkers & are unusable... #KeePassXC & #QDirStat. They used to work fine, but now their GUIs don't correctly paint on the screen, have severe flickering of individual elements, & either don't respond to clicks, or respond incorrectly. I dunno, but suspect it might be related to my Lappy being old, with thus old nvidia graphics [cf; Tower does not use nvidia]. Coz i only use Lappy occasionally [as opposed to Tower = daily], i dunno exactly when they went to hell. none of my attempts to troubleshoot, including allowing more & more app Flatpak Permissions for them, helped. so, this morn, exasperated, i decided to stop fighting them, & instead bypass them. i fired up my ArchLinux #Distrobox, then installed both apps in it, confirmed both work correctly, did the distrobox-export dance, uninstalled both those flatpaks, &... huzzah. I love #FOSS ๐

Hello to other Fedora Kinoite users. Do any of you pls know how to install the #Oxygen #GlobalTheme, or at least these individual parts:
- Application Style
- Window Decorations
- Icons
- Cursors
I use those by choice in my tower's ArchLinux boot, but in my Kinoite boot this theme is absent. My online search attempts for a solution have not helped. Ta ๐ค

i have a ginormous collection of browser #bookmarks, going back decades. am now pondering the efficacy, or not, & efficiency, or not, of trying to convert my browsing to a #tag-based paradigm rather than bookmark-based, similar to the success i experienced a year ago when i converted my #Thunderbird email history from complex folder hierarchy, to #tags.
anyone already trod this path, pls?

@timkenhan @vkc well, eg [& i say this as a devoted KDE Plasma Wayland lover, not hater] so far i have not found a #FOSS #GUI way to gain #RemoteAccess with full graphical desktop control to a remote pc running a Wayland session, whereas for an X11 remote it's a doddle. I like using #RustDesk & #AnyDesk, but afaict neither yet has solved this specific problem.

@gperson@social.linux.pizza How do you do Wayland #remoteaccess?
In my tower's Arch Plasma boot, like you i only use the Wayland session option, ignoring the X11 option.
In my tower's Kinoite Plasma boot, being Fedora there is no X11, only W.
My lappy also runs Kinoite. It is impossible to remote access it using FOSS from my tower, afaik, because neither #RustDesk nor #AnyDesk yet support a Wayland remote pc.
I don't understand why more users are not worried about this.

yesterday i learned of this new, nascent, feature in โ:firefox_nightly:โ -- a context-menu option to add a note to a tab. atm it is very raw, coz whilst adding a note works, as does later editing it, there seems no way to inspect some "index" of notes one has created over time.

@transcendentempress@eldritch.cafe you will get many answers i expect, prolly severely contradictory, but here's an option many prolly won't offer. if you'd like to get a well-setup โ:archlinux:โ that uses only the standard Arch repos, so you can trust there's no funny business going on, & you'd like the convenience of a graphical installer [#Calamares], check out #ezarcher by @eznix

atm my coefficient of pissedoffness is thru the ceiling. found some more crap with my #kdelinux, since that last post, so i realised i needed to jump ship. with much sadness [coz there's heaps i love about kdelinux, despite all the papercuts], i wiped it over with a new installation of Fedora Kinoite... only now to have been non-stop fighting this replacement bastard for hours. jfc! frying pan, fire. i dunno what's going on, but all efforts [bar one] to run updates, & install pkgs, stall then timeout during the repo syncing phase. one time only, a system update actually worked, after fighting it for ~60' - 90'. since then however, nothing but 100% failures via timeout at all attempts to install pkgs. at this stage i feel like jamming an abacus up its usb port! ๐คฌ

@a_blahaj ooooh, tricky question, one i have asked myself a lot over the months.
i am expert at neither, but prolly now have slightly more experience running Kinoite, given i put it on Lappy's SSD some/several months ago [posting from it atm, actually].
#Kinoite
- wins wrt me having solved basically all my needs on it now... #QEMU โ
, #Distrobox [incl Arch, damnit, sigh] โ
, #BackInTime โ
, #RustDesk โ
, #Flatpak with User not Root authority โ
, App Layering โ
, etc.
- loses in that i can only get its boot menu to offer me two versions, despite me seeing three each time i do rpm-ostree status -v.
#Kalpa
- wins in that its boot menu offers me several versions, which by definition provides more robust rollback capability IMO; Dev explained to me that layering is not a thing in Kalpa coz ... see his quote below
- loses in that almost every time i have installed it, when i enable Flathub it mandates root permission, ie, i have to install & update all subsequent Flatpaks after giving root permission [iirc one installation correctly made it User not Root, but all the rest "went wrong"].
there is no "layering" on kalpa, but you can absolutely attempt to install your vpn software via 'sudo transactional-update pkg in packagename' if it's in the repos, or 'sudo transactional-update run zypper in whatever.rpm' if you're downloading an rpm from a vendor.Fwiw, back to my KDELinux whinge:
Kalpa isn't image based like KDELinux or Kinoite, you'll be literally installing the rpm into the "immutable root" of the system
Oh no no noooooo, now i am pretty damn upset. It works fine in latest โ:firefox_nightly:โ and โ:floorp:โ in โ:debian:โ #SparkyLinux and โ:fedora:โ #Kinoite, but back in my preferred โ:kde:โ โ:linux:โ #KDELinux, wherein i first posted of the breakage, videos still do not play [anymore... they used to, til two days ago] in my โ:firefox_nightly:โ and โ:floorp:โ ... yet continue fine in โ:firefox:โ #Firefox therein. ๐ฎ๐คฏ๐ค๐คท
i have officially reached the stage of wondering just how many more papercuts i can tolerate with this otherwise fabulous alpha OS, before cutting my losses & replacing it with Kinoite [which runs well on my Lappy, & is free of almost all the papercuts i have battled here in my Tower's 3rd-boot KDELinux]. Sigh.

In my Lappy's atomic immutable, Fedora Kinoite, in prior months when i was setting it up, ALL attempts to be able to connect to Dad's pc with either AnyDesk or RustDesk, via either Flatpaks & overlaid rpm pkgs, failed. Hence, now in Tower's KDELinux i've not even bothered with those two flatpaks, not to mention that this atomic does not have a(n easy) way to overlay. Happily i found recently that AppImage works well for VeraCrypt in KDELinux, so i wondered if any of AnyDesk, RustDesk, or NoMachine might have an AI option... & yes, RD does! Aaaaaaand... it works - both for remote-access desktop control, & for file-transfer - yippee!
So, now that i have found effective workarounds for the last lingering papercuts in KDELinux, which hitherto stopped this otherwise lovely OS being able to be my fulltime daily system [remote-access โ
, VeraCrypt โ
, backups โ
, virtual machines โ
], i tentatively now conclude that henceforth i'll only boot back into either Arch or Sparky when i want to, rather than til now each time i needed to [for the preceding issues] ๐ ๐ฅณ ๐ฏโโ๏ธ
The ongoing failure of the ArchLinux Distrobox in my KDELinux [but no other DB] remains galling [not least that coz it does not work i had to find other ways to solve those tricky app issues], but now it is no longer significantly holding me back.
