Efter en dags tid med NixOS besluttede jeg at afprøve et "immutable" OS. Det har nogle af de samme fordele som NixOS med atomiske opdateringer man altid kan rulle tilbage fra. Selve filsystemet er bare read-only, så du kan umuligt smadre det. Jeg prøvede #Aeon fra #opensuse og må give dem ret i som de skriver på hjemmesiden at det ikke er klar. Men et spændende projekt! Hvis man kunne bruge nix til at installere pakker ville man kunne komme langt!
The #Aeon Desktop's GTK4 graphics issue making some apps unusable has been resolved in the snapshot I installed today.
Nautilus/Files is among the apps that now work as expected.

There's a bug in #OpenSUSE Tumbleweed that is kind of wrecking GNOME on the #AeonDesktop.
Luckily the BTRFS setup enables me to boot from an old(er) snapshot and keep on working. I'm running on the 11/14 image until this gets fixed in Tumbleweed and flows to #aeon.
This is the first bug in Aeon to affect me in a couple of months. I'm looking for a quick fix, which should come in the form of a newer GTK4 package.

When Win95 was first released, I was doing PC sales, repairs, and support with a small independent PC shop. One of our business customers was an insurance broker, with roughly a dozen PCs on an ethernet network.
They had us upgrade their 3.11 machines to Win95. Boss was a bit of a technophile. But like businesses everywhere, whoever spec'd the employee machines skimped on everything. They were 386s (DX, at least, not SX) with 4MB of RAM.
To say Win95 crawled on those machines is an understatement. Literal minutes - like 5 - to boot up to usability. Alt-tabbing to switch applications gave a 5-10s pause before the task switcher appeared, never mind the actual switched-to application. It could easily take a minute to switch between apps.
And the boss was thrilled. ?!?!? I know the employees sure weren't.

Besides Distrobox and Homebrew, I think UBlue also ships the ability to easily add the JetBrains Toolbox (which has nothing to do with Fedora's Toolbx). That's a nice addition. But what if I want to use Geany from Flatpak?
I hope this is the problem that Ubuntu is working on.
Right now I'm using #Aeon and working out of Distrobox (for my SUPER light development needs). The simplicity is working for me, but I know that's not all there is.
