🎩 Ah, the age-old "Local-First Software is the shiny new knight" tale, where #databases are the misunderstood protagonists in a techie soap opera no one auditioned for. 🤖 Spoiler alert: it's a #JavaScript jamboree with enough buzzwords to power a small startup, yet still manages to trip over its own limitations while chasing its offline dreams. 🚀

Question to people who have or want to start a local digital music collection: What do you want from a naming convention?
I had a planned naming convention, but I want to make sure the program I’m working on is useful to other people. My existing goal was to make a naming convention that is unlikely to be rejected, will be sorted sanely by even the most basic systems, and is consistently machine-readable.
My solution was to have the file name be a series of structured “tags.” For example:
BY-lemon-demon_IN-dinosaurchestra_NO-02_action-movie-hero-boy.flac
Tags can be used zero or more times in one file name and in any order, except the title which must be used only once and at the end. Tags should go from the most general grouping (usually an artist name) to the most specific part (the title). This way songs that are in the same category will be grouped together.
Is this a good naming convention for you, and what would you do differently?

I’ve been here a year or more, though a variety of accounts. I don’t post very much and I don’t aspire to post any certain amount. I’ve always felt young for my age but clearly aging now. While I feel like I’m a good person with interesting ideas I know that I’m a product of my environment so I’m suspicious of any strokes of genius I have.
If I were posting freely i would be talking about #linux #permaculture #permacomputing #ssb #localfirstsoftware #localfirst #parenting
Oh this looks like some interesting reading from @zelf

Oh, man, domain modeling is hard. It’s even harder when the tools are evolving *while they’re in your hands*. This is not made easier when one hasn’t fully internalized the way the tools are meant to work (see previous).
So. Here I am … (looks at git history) … three years later and I’m finally getting my family relationship application structured sort-of properly with TCA (and, as a side note, using SwiftData). It is slow going.
Very soon, I am going to run up against, “But I don’t want my app to *look* like that!” Because modal dialogs and popover sheets bug me. But at least I’ll be starting from a cleaner(?) place.
Last talk before LoFi hacking is @daffl talking about his DWeb chat app that we are using as the backchannel for the event this weekend đź’¬
Next up is @expede to talk about https://www.inkandswitch.com/beehive/notebook/
Our first speaker @pvh gives us a rundown of local-first software, Automerge, and some live coding! 🔥

OMG you guys I have just managed to use SwiftData together with SwiftUI in document-based app that uses The Composable Architecture!
This didn’t take *very* long, but it is at least something that I couldn’t find any examples of in the wild.
The #Irony here is breathtaking! #Discord #LocalFirstSoftware
Was spricht denn gegen #localfirstsoftware ?
If you want to know what the next era of applications will look like, have a read here:
"Loro is a [...] #CRDT library that developers can use to implement real-time #collaboration and version control in their applications. You can use #Loro to create local-first software."
"[...]Eg-walker leverages the best aspects of both [OT and CRDTs]."
This. This is #innovation! ✨

I use Mela for recipe storage but this one is interesting as well.
Yums is a recipe storage system built on top of email. Content on the web disappears with time, but email you have control over forever.
