On #macOS #Tahoe the Music app's status bar disappeared. This stumped me and Apple's support team, and got "escalated" to engineering. It turns out one has to scroll down from the top to see the bar - a fact I stumbled upon.

Unclear to me if someone thought this was good design or if this is a bug, but even their support staff don't get it. If I select tracks, needing to know their total time (I do this a lot when putting together radio shows), why do I need to scroll to get this info?

Apple’s Settings app on the Mac really is just a complete embarrassment.

User searching for the Touch ID setting using the Settings search field. It of course returns no real results and completely ignores the actual setting named TOUCH ID.

I’m wondering why #Apple even has nested virtualization in their chips when #macOS VMs can’t use it. This means that devs can’t use a macOS VM to build cross-platform apps with… oh. Ok I get it now.

Does anyone have any #linux recommendations for an elderly person with vision problems?

My 91-year-old father is still very interested in browsing the web, getting news updates, and doing basic computing tasks. But the #Apple #macOS updates continue to be increasingly hostile to people who don’t embrace unnecessary UI changes.

Is anyone building desktop or tablet solutions for this market? I prefer #FOSS, but I’d happily purchase something that guarantees simplicity and stable, unchanging UX.
