Daunting…
After 15 years of #MacOs, I decided to move to Linux, and in a few weeks, also away from Mac hardware, currently 16GB RAM and 512GB SSD..
Any Don't_s or Do_s ? Maybe for Ubuntu specifically?
Is Linux/Ubuntu hogging less or more RAM than MacOS 10.13 High Sierra ?
In terminal scripts, awk or python often chew on large csv files for hours, days even, which can cause a kill -9 when running out of swap space.
So I reckon, for this reason alone, it'll have to be 24? or 32GB RAM this time, since the csv files won't be getting smaller, only larger.
Migrating apps and getting used to the new ones…ssoooo scary for my ageing mind 😭
Darktable for photos.
What replaces Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro?
Super happy that Vivaldi browser, Panoply for climate maps https://www.giss.nasa.gov/tools/panoply/download/
and Zotero for cataloguing stuff I read, eg science papers or books https://www.zotero.org
come for Linux out of the box.
They together with LibreOffice are my most used.
And happy that a newer OS enables me to use more and updated python libraries. What a pita having to mesh versions.…
Choosing hardware from the millions of models and model names out there... already supported by Linux (Ubuntu?) OMG!
Circumventing any and all Windows stuff on first boot – whaaaaaa!
