Spoke with company, they are going to sort a replacement and suggested keeping broken one and try to secure.

So far so good, just not strong enough to hold the butcher paper pad.

Friday night Flipchart factoring fun with company.

♾️

Imagine stepping into a warmly lit living room on a rainy Friday night. In the center stands a white flip chart, its edges reinforced with tape after a rough delivery.

The board features a hand-drawn yohaku algebra puzzle: a neat 3x3 grid filled with expressions like (a + 2), 7a, (2a + 3), and (3a – 5). At the bottom and right side, products like “3a² + 12a + 12 = 3(a + 2)(a + 2)” challenge you further.

As you trace the lines, the cool surface beneath your fingertips feels familiar. Would you start with the bottom row or the right column? Would you start with the bottom row, or tackle the right column first? Badger, the black-and-white tuxedo cat, sits perched on a red ottoman, studies you with bright, curious eyes as if asking, “Are you sure about that factorisation?”

Nearby, Rīx, the sleek black cat, crouches with tail flicking, ready to pounce on a stray marker cap or perhaps leap into the maths fun. The gentle patter of rain outside and the soft glow of the lamp create a cosy atmosphere.

Do you feel a mix of determination and amusement as you puzzle through, patched board and all? If you were here, would you hand Badger a marker for feline assistance, or just enjoy the playful company as you dive into this Friday night factoring adventure?

What’s your next move-will you solve the algebraic challenge before the cats get bored, or will their antics win your attention first?

I tried something different for a client today with ASD, ADHD, Dyslexia, Dysgraphia & possibly Dyscalculia.

Whilst they really enjoy number-wheels, as we are still working on their handwriting I felt this was a better option.

Sit back and enjoy the story…

Imagine a vibrant scene spread out on a table. A pile of crisp sheets of papers lie flat, filled with rows and columns of numbers. This is a multiplication table, a grid of endless possibilities for mathematical discovery. The heading is bookended by two little cartoon images.

Below the pile of papers are two more sheets on either side. They are the full size colour images of the black and white logos printed on either side of the title on the multiplication tables.

Typically I would provide more information - but you will find it in the thread below…

Oh my... don't even get me started on the #maths announcement yesterday...

#NZPol #education #MathsIsFun but won't be for long in the #CoalitionOfChaos carries on the way they're going... 😬🙄

🤩 I always loved working out how many km's until the next fabulous number pattern on the family car's odometer. 057057, 123321...

This, is perhaps the start of my own love of maths. Puzzles engage minds. ❤️👍

My mum always spoke about this too - her grandad had told her age 6 that it was the only time she would be twice her younger brother's age. She recalled trying so many ages to find another one that worked.

Found a fun book on Group Theory to get started, relying more on visual diagrams for explanation.

@futurebird

An interesting view! I think of composite numbers as more robust, more guts and way more interesting. Primes just sit there... they're never really part of a challenging problem, they can't help us with our budgeting or cooking, and primes are hardly ever even!!

Therefore, ladders are far better than primes.
😜👍

I was intrigued by a question lnkd.in/dz7FcEXg, which looked quite complex at first sight, at least to most of the young and novice Maths learners. Although, it isn't tough, students should attack it with the right approach, to find the solution. #students #maths #mathstricks #mathsisfun #mathclass #mathisfun #mathslover #mathskills #mathstudents #mathstutor #mathproblems #matheducation #mathematics #mathslover #mathtricks #math #learning #quizoftheday #solutions #skilldevelopment

@cvvhrn I might see if we have these at the local garden centre. I love the mathematical arrangement of the petals as well as the vibrant colour.

In case you want to know how many seconds there are until Xmas... 🤣😂🤩

31,414,044 seconds until Xmas at the time of this screenshot from my Xmas app - only have it to encourage the students I teach to understand numbers into the millions.
2022-12-23

I got this app a couple of years ago when I noticed my students were having trouble reading and understanding numbers into the millions. The students I teach know about the app so every so often we guess how many seconds there are. It's getting close now!

@Mr_n_wood @TeaKayB
That is an interesting question?!
I teach 9-11 year olds and one girl I've had for two years decided she is a mathematician - she worked her butt off and made crazy progress - I'm inclined to agree - she's a mathematician 🤩

I have been thinking about #Maths questions related to the splash pad our students played at on Wednesday. It took 10 minutes to fill the enormous bucket before it tipped over, cascading down over whoever was underneath. Perhaps different tap pressures, L/min, windy day, slows down by...?? Any suggestions?

I am starting to think that my following and followers numbers are likely to remain 2-3 away from 50 difference.

I keep finding more interesting people to follow and up that number goes and then some other people start to follow me 😁

I have known it's been a mixed up year for school attendance with covid as well as other bugs... I have just counted up the four classes in my team - 20, 11, 8 and 4.

What do you think these numbers represent?? 🤔

Over on the bird site I have enjoyed a series of threads with a maths problem with the request to share your strategy - Pam Harris runs it. I can't see her on here yet.
This morning I saw the problem 4896÷96

How would you solve it?

This collection of problems is fantastic - so many of us were taught maths by memorising formula, learning algorithms and had little clue about the connection of these tools to anything real.
