Finally found some 4040 hinges that are also 100% compatible with #gridkit. Can't wait to try them out on some new designs! Great for cabinet doors, folding desks or other transformer furniture.

The image shows a close-up of a black hinge attached to two perforated wooden beams. The hinge is secured with four silver screws, two on each side, and connects the two wooden pieces. The wooden beams are light-colored with evenly spaced holes along their lengths. The hinge is positioned in the center, allowing the beams to move or fold. The background is a soft green, and the image focuses on the clean and functional installation of the hinge.

Working on some prototype "grid panels". 😃

These ones are drilled halfway through so one side can be used as a bench top and the other side for connections using an M8 insert nut.

The image shows two pieces of perforated wood sheets, one light and one dark, placed next to each other. Each sheet has evenly spaced holes drilled in a grid pattern. On the darker wood sheet, there is a yellow hand sander with a metal clip holding a sanding pad in place. The contrast between the light and dark wood sheets highlights different finishes.

#upcycling stuff lying around the shed with Grid Kit.

An MDF cabinet with roller door is now a laptop workbench on wheels with a tool storage and the next day I added a pinboard and little shelf. 😃

Need to get more laser cut steel L-brackets they're awesome.

A DIY workbench is placed in a well-lit workshop. The workbench features a sturdy wooden top supported by a simple frame made of perforated wooden beams. A white cabinet with open shelves is integrated into the lower part of the workbench, containing plastic containers of hardware and tools. Leaning against the cabinet is a toolbox and a green panel. A corkboard attached to the back of the bench has various papers pinned to it, while a small shelf on the bench holds a tape measure and a triangular tool. The background shows a cluttered workshop with materials like wooden panels, brooms, and stacked supplies.A more streamlined version of the workbench in an indoor/outdoor workspace at night. The setup remains similar with the wooden tabletop and integrated shelving cabinet holding multiple storage containers. A laptop sits on top of the bench. A green toolbox and black DeWalt case are positioned against the bottom shelf, while a pegboard with attached clips stands on the right side, holding a drill and other tools. The setup appears mobile, with small caster wheels underneath the base. The area is dimly lit, and the dark outdoors is visible beyond the workspace.

I'm super looking forward to finally getting on a CNC mill. Let's see if this funky idea actually can be made.

Wow is that strong. This is a full size 150mm print of a vertical post that measures 56x58mm. There are two horizontal 20x40mm bars that slot in. They are held in place with a vertical pin you slide into the hole on the top that's about 6mm diameter and 65mm tall.

Slowly getting there. This design is more to scale than previous ones. This one is also mostly CNCed, no table saw. There's a lot of pieces and glue, but it would theoretically be possible to be made. This version is using veneers, but it could be made with solid wood if you wanted.

The design of the keeps changing because I've been trying out different manufacturing approaches. As much as I would like to have bespoke cast metal parts and fancy dovetail joints, I am somewhat limited in tools and time. I need a way to mass produce a lot of composable pieces that can fit together without tools and disassemble quickly. The goal is also to allow flexibility in building different structures and attach different accessories.

The idea continues to evolve. After interviews with people and trying to understand materials, we have to work with what's out there a lot of the time.

Fréquence shelf by Jean Couvreur for Kataba

**Dezeen Showroom: **Jean Couvreur has designed the minimalist Fréquence shelf for Kataba, which was created as a multifunctional piece of modular furniture.

The Fréquence shelf can be used as a bookcase, base unit or room divider, and is made up of a number of geometrically shaped modules.

The bookshelf consists of individual modules

These can be combined in different ways to create a design that can be adapted to suit its interior, ranging from a small bookshelf close to the floor to a larger room divider.

Fréquence is "the expression of a sober and efficient construction principle based on the exploitation of all the properties of aluminum," Kataba said.

This construction principle has reduced the loss of material in its manufacturing to less than 10 per cent.

They can be arranged to form a room divider

The sturdy aluminium makes for a hardy shelf with an industrial feel, which is offset by it's organical shape.

The Fréquence shelf is one of a selection of products available through French furniture and design fair Maison & Objet.

Soft Rock modular sofa system by Strand + Hvass for Narbutas

Dezeen Showroom: Danish designers Christina Strand and Niels Hvass have created a modular sofa system for workplace furniture brand Narbutas that fosters connectivity in modern offices.

Called Soft Rock, the seating is characterised by its blocky silhouette and rounded corners, which were informed by the way that waves wash over rocks and smoothen their edges.

The Soft Rock sofa system was designed for flexible workspaces

The low-lying sofa was created in response to the shift away from traditional office settings and towards more flexible work environments.

"The demand for more casual, relaxed working spaces is increasing and at the same time, the need for constant motion," explained Hvass and Strand.

The sofas can be configured into different arrangements to accommodate various work modes

Soft Rock's modular design allows it to be rearranged and adapted to different needs, creating spaces for focused work, rest, training or meetings.

Multiple seating units can be combined into sprawling configurations to accommodate larger groups.

The sofas have in-built power sockets and charging capabilities, as well as optional acoustic screen dividers

Additional features include integrated power sockets and fast-charging USB ports embedded into the armrests and fabric-covered dividers that aid privacy and reduce noise as well as helping to maintain social distancing.

Soft Rock modules come in a range of different sizes and shapes, including options with or without backrests and with a straight or curved silhouette.
