The new 'webcam' has manual control of everything on the lens. Mapping should just require zooming to frame 'target', then focus, then stop down aperture for the mapper. 👍

ELP 4K 'webcam' with manual 5-50mm f1.4 zoom.

The camera is just a little black cube attached to a tripod mount. The lens is 2-3 times the size of the camera body. There is a double ball pivot joint on the tripod positioned so that the CoG of the camera is over the tripod so the camera/lens weight won't tip it over.

Sample LED pattern running as a test of camera/lens ability to stop down the lens so that other light sources do not appear in the image. It works very well and should make the mappers job as easy as possible.

Made some significant progress on the topper today.

Got too tired to continue and started making mistakes but this is a good place to stop for the night.

I'll add the top neopixel and double check the wiring tomorrow before firng it up flat like this when I'm (hopefully) fresh. And yes, the telco patch wire is back again!

An initial foray into electronic 'sculpture' where I can hide all my mistakes!

Four sticks of 8 neopixels soldered together as a string using solid telco patch wire. A single neopixel is at the top, not connected yet. The connection wires for it go out the right edge of the image. On the bottom left the input connection can be seen.

The structure is held by 'blue tack' on the bench to make soldering easier and hold assembly form. Pre-tinning *everything* also makes this much easier.

I haven't even mapped it yet and it looks pretty good! I'm happy!

But mapping it will be a fun exercise. (he says confidently with both shoes tied together)
