#NeriumOleander

2025-07-10
My oleander (Nerium oleander), grown from seed, is blooming for the very first time — and with a beautiful pink flower!
It’s been quite the wait, but seeing it open today made it all worth it.
There’s something extra special about watching a plant you raised from seed finally come into its own.

Inktober 2023 // Day 25: Dangerous

Nerium oleander contains several toxic compounds, and it has historically been considered a poisonous plant. However, its bitterness renders it unpalatable to humans and most animals, so poisoning cases are rare and the general risk for human mortality is low.

Here we have a #Neriumoleander… most commonly known as oleander or nerium.

Again we go pink this evening. A deep shade. We cannot dictate what appears on the footpath and when I can stop to snap!

But this one has been taken just now during #sunset and it is lovely.

The tree itself is a little dehydrated, lives wild near a railway line, although is doing just fine and still flowering with a good proportion of its bloom still bursting with colour.

You’re feasting your eyes on a #Neriumoleander. Pretty in pink. And it’s quite large.

Light reds also feature atm in #melbourne Australia. This one is right at home in #MountWaverley #Australia.

It is so widely cultivated that no precise region of origin has been identified, though it is usually associated with the Mediterranean.

Taken just before sunset. It’s a cheery thing.

🙏💖
