Speaking of #Tokens, and another #Numismatic #Book. This week's E-Sylum also has a review of the 2014 publication "British and Irish Copper Tokens of 1787-1804" by Jon Lusk: coinbooks.org/v29/esylum_v29n1

This large volume will be of interest to #British / #UK / #Irish #token collectors, if not already in your collection.

The Swiss National Bank (SNB) has announced the results of its competition for the new series of banknotes. The winning theme is "Switzerland in relief", which will represent the diversity of Switzerland's different landscapes on each banknote.
The 10 CHF note will represent the plains; 20 - the plateau, 50 - the Jura, 100 - the Pre-Alps, 200 - the Alpine region and 500 - the high mountains.

Nickel update! I've found three more book fillers for my Jefferson album 1 book this week. My mom gave me the album for Christmas left over from her coin hobby pre-kids and my dad gave me his silver nickel collection from when he was a kid, so I've only found one of the war nickels myself, but it's a "family" project so it counts.

As a furry numismatist, I need this.

Very successful #banknote and #coin auction today - some of the #Polish coins fetched amazing prices. While the top price was predictably achieved by a #gold #Ducat which went for £2,000, quite a few #silver coins fetched prices in the hundreds. Other than a #telephone bidder (a longstanding client who spends big) all our bids today were obtained via the two online platforms we use (www.the-saleroom.com and www.easyliveauction.com).

Today is a 1 Shilling from British East Africa, nowadays modern Kenya, dated 1950. This coin was minted by Heaton and Sons from the Mint Birmingham, visible by the H mint mark (in the red circle).

Depicted are a lion with mountains in the back. The obverse depicts the crowned head of king George VI, looking left.

Another big hobby of mine is collecting coins. Here’s a nice coin from Peru.

This is a 5 Soles 2016. The obverse shows the Peruvian Coat of Arms, the reverse shows the Nazca Lines Condor.

The 5 Soles coin with this design has been around since 2016 (2 million were made in this year) and still is being issued every year.

One thing I really enjoyed learning about with this piece from Papua New Guinea was the the different tribes - particularly the #Skeleton #Tribe - which seems appropriate this week for Halloween

While the link here might be tenuous, what is your favourite #numismatic piece linked to #Halloween?

1943 Papua New Guinea 6 Pence - Reverse Design reminiscent of the discoidal, flower-like carved stone heads of war clubs. Lettering around. The head is on a smooth wooden pole.Members of the Skeleton tribe - painted in black with white to look like skeletons.

in the same bundle of change I got from them - Georgina Washington side by side one of the bicentennials, fascinating to see the contrast 👌

two quarters on a very scratched steel table; at left, face up, George Washington of the Famous Women new quarter design, featuring a ponytail, dated 2024; at right, the back side of one of the bicentennial 1776-1976 quarters, or as I called them growing up, the "Drummer Boy" quarters, somewhat rusted but still prominently featuring Generic Ponytailed Patriot with his snare drum and his tri-corner hat - coins from two VERY different cultural eras

the local taqueria still consistently manages to provide me with the most fascinating change 😆 two new ones that I had not yet seen before now, and an opportunity to familiarize myself with some history that I never knew I never knew!

the back side of two of the more recent "New Quarters" (for lack of a better term), the Famous Women series. At right, Zitkala-Sa, "Author, Activist, Composer", co-founder of the National Council of American Indians in 1926 to try to establish US citizenship and other long-denied civil rights, and co-composer of a 1913 opera "The Sun Dance Opera", a recording of which I've so far been unable to locate. At left, Edith Kanaka'ole, a Hawaiian dancer/chanter and also composer starting in 1946.

The Australian Bird of the Year 2025 has been announced!

Congratulations to the Tawny Frogmouth! A beautiful bird and a well deserved winner.

There aren't many coins featuring the bird, one in fact - and it came out just this year - the 5c piece in the Aussie Bubs set from the Royal Australian Mint features a cartoonish representation of the bird. Pictured is the coin - courtesy en.numista.com/464491

And the bird, from the Guardian article where you can learn more about the contest and this year's short-listed birds: theguardian.com/environment/li

The proposal for a US commemorative coin featuring Trump has drawn.... many comments from the #Numismatic community - a few I have seen and elected not to share - I'd rather comment on coins which do exist or at least are definitely in production, rather than politics. But this article from this week's E-Sylum compares the proposal to the first living person commemorated on a coin.... in Ancient Rome, and the impact of that - And I do like ancient Roman coins. (Spoiler: it's NOT Caesar, though he definitely gets a mention): coinbooks.org/v28/esylum_v28n4

(Trump coin from E-Sylum, Roman coin from article linked in E-Sylum).

Hi everyone! A short #Introduction. Firstly, thanks to @hello for taking in this digital refugee! I've been posting about #Coins, #Tokens, #Medallions and #PNCs (#Postal #Numismatic Covers) for a number of years on my blog: coinofnote.com/ - I've moved over from historians.social as they were closing and I look forward to sharing #Numismatic information and news here, and most importantly - I look forward to seeing what YOU have to share!

Canada just got a new coin shaped like a giant globe
Shaped like a globe and issued from Barbados, the Royal Canadian Mint's new release won't fit the average person's pocket. The new Blue Marble silver coin doesn't weigh as much as the now sold-out Big Silver Maple Leaf coin (which weighs a whopping 10 kg), but at 1 kg, it's still heavier than the usual assortment of change in your pocket.B...
