This one was a surprise actually, since it’s actually a REALLY good unit. But its little brother the Onn 4K Plus, at $20 cheaper, is just a bit faster and better. Finally figured out how to lock SDR mode only, on the #Onn 4K Plus. Each time I tried to set it up via the normal method, apps like Plex would just quit out when I started them because they were still trying to change to HDR mode but the Onn wasn’t allowing it. I had to force a resolution (not auto-res) then got the option to choose YCbCr 4:4:4 8-bit, did that, THEN went back to auto-res.
I had to insert the digital index finger BEFORE the thumb, in other words.
But we got there. 👌

Bought a #UGOOS UR02 #remote for no particular reason to control my #Onn 4K pro box. Here it is next to the original remote. Verrrry similar, both feel amazing in the hand - FAR better than the #AppleTV remote. Some diff buttons. Light grey ones are IR programmable. Everything else can be reprogrammed with #ButtonMapper or #tvQuickActions Pro. Got it for just over a buck from #AliExpress as it was a first-time purchaser deal. Could have gotten any of a billion other things. Oh well.

I'm not having much #luck with my #AndroidTV boxes. One Nvidia died after 4½ years, the replacement after 2½ years. Got an #Onn #GoogleTV box after that, and today, after nine months, it's gone into a boot loop. Or more properly, a home screen loop.
When the box is about to get to the home screen, you see gray boxes and rectangles where pictures and text will appear, then the pictures and text do appear, then the screen blanks out for a second, then it goes back to gray boxes as the loop continues. (Tried to upload a clip, but that failed twice.)

OK, I've had this #Onn #keyboard for a year or more, and I *finally* figured out how to control (in my case turn off) the lights on the damn thing! For anyone else who, like me, has the Onn keyboard with the 4 keys to the right of the space bar, and would like to disable those lights, here's what you do.
The second key to the right of the space bar is the FN key (not sure what the print on it says, but that's basically what it does.) Press that plus the pause key, the right-hand key in the group of 3 just to the right of the f12 key. You can press that combination to cycle through lighting modes--including the beautiful off setting.
Woot have the #FireTv Cube gen 3 refurbed for $75. Normally over $100. As a streaming nerd I was tempted, but the #Onn 4K Pro box is just so freaking good AND it’s $25 cheaper. Slower CPU but who cares? You use the interface like 5% of the time. I just wish the Onn was smaller. It doesn’t need to have a main unit the size of a double decker sandwich. Cube has upscaling (so does my TV) but that’s apparently nowhere near as good as the #nVidia #Shield’s.
May buy another Onn this week actually.
A minor but still cool thing about the #Onn 4K Pro box is the amount of onboard RAM it has. For example I use KODi a lot but also watch stuff on other apps like YouTubeTV or Prime Video. On the #FireStick I’m used to flipping between them and having to wait a few seconds as each inits (because it exited running as other apps started). This morning, started the TV and ran KODi and it instantly started. Still in the b/g. Hadn’t exited since the last run. That’s nice. It’s the little things.
After reading the hype, I bought an #Onn 4K Pro #streaming box from #Walmart yesterday and hooked it up. Just like the #GoogleTV interface a lot more than the #Firestick one. It has the Google Assistant built into the box itself (ie the streaming unit is a mic as well as a speaker) and the remote is backlit, has a "find" feature and is generally comfortable to hold. I really like it. But I'm going to firesale (see what I did there?) some of my older firesticks now. Finally.

As a heavy user of the original #Chromecast, and a current user of the #CCwGtv I'm not sad at all.
#ONN makes excellent #AndroidTV boxes that are just as cheap and even better built than the #Google ones.

Oh well, at least it doesn't have the "Free TV" button that does Google-knows what.
