I have a raspberry pi 4 (8GB) and I wanted to try out Kodi... Stupid question... Is it possible/advisable to containerise it and run it in kubernetes (I'm thinking microk8s) instead of running a dedicated kodi distro?

If this sounds crazy, my reasoning is that I want to run some object storage for an unrelated project on the same raspi (but kodi wouldn't rely on it for media, it would use streaming plugin to connect to Jellyfin hosted somewhere else on my LAN)

Also; I want to manage the microk8s with my existing fluxcd stuff so I can learn about multi-cluster management. Hoping that I can have many "edge raspis" hosting various services throughout the house in the future and this would be great as a PoC

Habe mir vor zwei Wochen einen Bibliothek-Ausweis gegönnt. Klingt erst einmal nicht so spektakulär. Das Kind nutzt ihn aber schon fleißig. :)

Mein Beitrag ist die Mediathek von @filmfriend.bsky.social in Kodi integriert, auf dem heimischen Fernseher. Gerade für Kinder eine gute Alternative zu Netflix, Disney+ oder Amazon Prime.

Einfach mit dem Bibliothek-Ausweis anmelden und streamen. Zur Not in der Bibliothek vor Ort das Passwort zurücksetzen lassen. Dann müsste es euer Geburtsdatum (8-stellig und ohne Punkte) sein.

If you love #linux but don't know the #mpv mediaplayer yet, i highly recommend this! Not because it is visually "plain", but because it is highly configurable and real easy to achieve important functions and workflows that other #mediaplayers like #vlc or #kodi just won't. The calendar can be perfectly synchronized with all devices via CalDAV, contacts via CardDAV using EU #nextcloud #disroot / movies using #kodi #raspberrypi / #realdebrid although it is more of a "pirated" choice but works great.

set up transmission-daemon on the rpi3b+, with seed data transferred from workstation to external hard drive using rsync over ssh.

also set up an anonymous readonly smb share for public data, tested access from workstation, worked great.

struggled hard configuring rpi4 tv box running libreelec/kodi to access the rpi3b+ smb share until i found a guide. was still extremely unintuitive. starts half way down this page (point 9):

@phpc_tv won't run on the available Kodi app for Peertube by default, because the instance isn't in its list of Peertube instances, limited to 1,000 in the app. Easy fix though :tada:

First off, install the Next Gen Peertube app for Kodi.

I recently setup a #jellyfin server. I thought it would be easier for the family to consume our video content than the fixed #kodi setup. I still prefer Kodi for use on the TV, but for mobile and laptop use I really appreciate the transcoding. I follow the same practice for video as audio, in that I rip and store the video in their original format, just in a new container.

But so far testing out well locally. Streaming #4K content over #tailscale without any problems. Bit of poking and #mariadb and #samba mounts to the shared #kodi library are working perfectly, as is #tvheadend
