The trick getting @OS1337 to be useable on it would likely be just a #uBoot config & drivers to spit out the terminal on the #eInk screen.
- Problem may just be to get a keyboard connected if it doesn't support #USB - #OTG and an accompaining USB-Hub.
Reminds me of @landley 's words re: #Android development that some impoverished person should be able to develop their apps with anything they can get get Android to boot spit out a screen and accept inputs from a keyboard and maybe mouse.

Well, yesterday my #googlepixel4a just decided to say "Today is a good die to die", so after having it for nearly 4 years the screen broke in the worst way possible.
Screen is completly black and unresponsive however the rest of the device works fine and I know this because it still gives me a little "thung" when I try to fingerprint it which I know is it saying "Please enter pin code before using fingerprint authentication"
After spending a couple hours(rougly 5-6) on it attempting to access it via anything I could think off, I ran into a roadblock where to access it via anything I need USB debugging enabled(Okay not an issue), but even to plug in a keyboard using #otg I need to click okay on a prompt from what I could find as it didn't register any keypresses so I couldn't use scrcpy to mirror the screen because I can't verify my device for USB debugging.
And replacing the screen would be a 100
So it seems like my old pixel which has served me very well for a very long time has breathed it's last breath, which is very unfortunate as I was planning to replace it with an iPhone 15 anyway after #wwdc because ofcourse apple will almost definetley announce the iPhone 16 which means 15's would have dropped in price.
So guess we call that a forced migration of production infrastructure during an unexpected time period, luckily I was able to pick the new one up this morning after having the pixel die yesterday so I was able to get everything setup again.
I did however lose all my Whatsapp messages because I forgot to setup backups when I was redoing that... so as always remember #BACKUPS BACKUPS BACKUPS, and even if you have them test them to make sure they work. Didn't lose anything valuable as I don't store anything on my phone but this definetley shows to be prepared and make sure you do have backups. #backups #phonerepair #android #iphone

The experience with #postmarketos and #gnomemobile was really not bad, but with some catches. Here's some considerations:
I used #Podcast app for #Gnome to listen some podcasts. I downloaded them in a spot with 4G connection and listened while pedaling. It worked okay, but it seems that the pause command originating from the button on the bluetooth headset is ignored.
Also used #Monophony as a #Spotify replacement. It worked very well: when the playback was suspended due to lack of connection, it was resumed automatically when the connection returned available (this doesn't work well even for Spotify on Android...!).
About #GnomeMaps, it was okayish... It obtains a GPS fix in a matter of seconds, and the directions seems accurate (and there's support to bicycle directions), but there's no way to tell it to follow the GPS marker: you have to press the "center on gps position" button every few seconds. If you keep the phone in hand and inadvertitely touch a part of the screen, it selects that position and hides the track you were following. This is very inconvenient: the directions are still there, in the directions list, but the track is hidden from the screen and the only way to make it reappear is to cancel it and re-insert all the fields... There's also no support for #turnbyturn navigation...
But I must say the new #vector #map is awesome: crisp even in hi res displays and very legible, it should be set as the default imho.
I could download #gpx tracks I had already in my cloud (using #gnome file manager configured with my #nextcloud #webdav address), but I couldn't transfer to my #bryton cycle computer, because it seems that #usb #otg is not supported on my #oneplus 6T, and the bryton device wasn't recognized nor mounted.
To this, it would be beautiful if Gnome Maps could allow to save some directions as .gpx file to be sent (once the usb otg thing is fixed) to a cycle computer.
Gnome Mobile behaves very well. The experience in the files app is not very touch friendly, but it kinda works. The lockscreen bug happened again, but this time I could manage to unlock the device without force restarting it. I believe it's some kind of focus snafu, because I could drag the numeric keypad up and down, but it didn't snap to the full open/full close position, it just moved with my finger. The keys were highlighted when pressed, but no character was inserted. The key for opening the alphabetic keyboard or the one for the emergency call didn't do anything when pressed. At last, playing with the upper droprown, I was able to somehow make them to work, insert the code and unlock the device.
Maybe tomorrow I will try to write this braindump in a more legible way and file some bugs to the relevant projects...

I'm writing this post in the hope someone will rip off my idea and start selling it on Ali Express.
Many years ago, I got a "Pressy". It was a little dongle which fitted into your phone's headphone jack. It had a single button on the top. It came with an app so when you tapped the button the app would do something. For example, tap once to open email, double-tap to switch to flight mode, etc.
Most modern phones eschew headphone ports. They let water in, are fragile, and a cheap DAC produces worse sound quality than Bluetooth1.
So would it be possible to have a USB-C component which does something similar?
Technically, yes!
- There are USB-C keyboard which plug directly into phones.
- For a couple of quid, you can get mini keyboards with a custom amount of keys
- I can find a single button PTT USB-C device albeit with a ridiculously long cable.
- The Yubikey 5C nano has the right form factor and comes with a (pre-programmed) single button.
I don't have the skills to solder one of these devices myself. So, who makes one?
