Yesterday in #Oxfordshire the weather was better than we could have hoped for our #PartialSolarEclipse outreach event! We had between 15-20 people drop round during the 2hrs. We had eclipse glasses, projection, white light & H-alpha telescopes for people to view. We had some nice optical effects too!

🇩🇪 Die Voraussetzungen waren sicher nicht ideal: Ordentlich Wind und mehrere sich gegeneinander verschiebende Wolkendecken.
Die Wolken waren hier - ca. 10 Minuten vor der maximalen Verfinsterung - so dick, dass ich dieses Bild ganz ohne Filter aufgenommen habe. Wenige Augenblicke später kam die nächste dicke Wolke und erst 20 Minuten später konnte ich die Sonne wieder dürftig erhaschen.

🇬🇧 The conditions were certainly not ideal: strong winds and several cloud covers shifting against each other.
The clouds were so thick here - about 10 minutes before the maximum eclipse - that I took this picture completely without a filter. A few moments later, the next thick cloud appeared and it wasn't until 20 minutes later that I was able to catch a glimpse of the sun again.

DE: Ein Bild der partiellen Sonnenfinsternis vom 29. März 2025. Der Mond verdeckt ein knappes Fünftel der Sonne am rechten, oberen Rand. Es war bewölkt, weswegen dunkle Schleier über die Sonne ziehen und ihr eine hübsche nebelige Umrandung geben.

EN: An image of the partial solar eclipse on 29 March 2025, with the moon obscuring just under a fifth of the sun at the top right-hand edge. It was cloudy, which is why a dark veil covers the sun and gives it a pretty foggy outline.

While it was hard to see, if not impossible to see it with the naked eye, not that you should look straight into the sun, I took this shot using welding glasses:

Here are a couple of my partial solar eclipse shots, taken with a fair amount of cloud cover. I’m pretty happy with the results, considering that I only used a relatively cheap Baader solar filter on my telescope and the weather conditions. The equipment I used is in the alt text.

When you don't have enough cloud cover to act as a nice filter for the sun, but also just enough for everything to be hazy, it's time to go old school lofi to watch the partial solar eclipse.
