Just got around to sorting my photos from this year's Philadelphia Flower Show. Here's a smattering of Fun Stuff. More in the alt text.

View from the entrance. A large number of curved LEDs arch over the walkway, there are lit trees and dramatic waterfall-like fountains of flowers, colors and lights, and a lot of people walking in ahead of me.

One view of a totally amazing installation forming a forest, made by a Japanese firm. A variety of evergreen trees are included, some with elaborate exposed roots, mossy forest floor, pebbled path, etc. There was a small tea room in the center, totally unnecessary for the magic of the whole thing, which was the detail of roots, understory plants, large trees, and all the rest.

Some kind of plastic rings joined together into structures that resemble clouds, hung above a bunch of flower arrangements. Some strands of something like sphagnum moss hang down here and there, perhaps a bit like rain.

I am elated to share the news that during 3 rounds of competition, my 13 plant entries won 29 ribbons at the 2023 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show: one 1st Prize; seven 2nd Prize; five 3rd Prize; twelve Honorable Mentions; four Class Commendations. The annual gardening event ran March 4-12.

The plant shown here is my PLATYCERIUM BIFURCATUM 'NETHERLANDS' (common name "Elkhorn Fern"), a plant I purchased years ago as a baby with just a few green leaves and no basal fronds. I will never get over the thrill of entering the Convention Center and spotting this blue ribbon from across the room.

This photo shows a Platycerium Bifurcatum 'Netherlands' (common name "Elkhorn Fern") in competition at the 2023 PHS Philadelphia Flower Show. The plant has long green fronds and round brown basal fronds. The plant is positioned in brown mulch, and in front there is a white card with the plant's details and a blue First Prize ribbon.
