Hume is famous for being solely devoted to #reason.
When he fell into a bog outside Edinburgh one time, he reasoned unexpectedly.
He was stuck; then a fishwife found him. She recognised him as 'Hume the #Atheist'. She decided to extract an oath to #Christianity from him in exchange for her help.
Surprisingly, Hume readily agreed*. Since false oaths are unprovable, he was therefore briefly religious.
