The Register: RSS dulls the pain of the modern web . “Last week, Caroline Crampton’s blog post, The View from RSS really caught our attention, helped by its subtitle: What the web looks like when you subscribe to 2,000 RSS feeds. We were not the only ones who it grabbed: at the weekend, Cory Doctorow also picked up on it in a post called The web is bearable with RSS.” Remember, your pal Cal has […]

In a shocking turn of events, the author waxes nostalgic about a time when social media was a utopia of human connection, only to declare it dead and replaced by...RSS feeds? 😂 Apparently, the future is all about reliving 2005 one feed at a time. 📜🔄

🎭 Oh, the sophisticated elegance of being a digital Peeping Tom via RSS feeds! Caroline Crampton is clearly the *avant-garde* of internet lurking, enjoying the chaotic ballet of AI-curated content from the shadows. 📚👀 Meanwhile, the rest of us cavemen still hunt and gather our information like it's 1999. 🔍🌐

#AdviceWanted

Wondering if anyone can recommend a (free) way to follow Instagram feeds in an RSS reader? I searched online for a way to convert an Instagram user's feed to an RSS feed but it appears it's “complicated”…

I self-host #FreshRSS and would like to be able to follow some music-related Instagram feeds which post about local gigs etc. I ditched my Instagram account a few years ago and won't ever go back, but it would be great to be able to see announcements of gigs and that sort of thing, from people who don't use anything to get the word out apart from the dreaded Instagram…

Thanks in advance!

In an increasingly centralized web, where a few tech giants control much of the content distribution, an `RSS Feed` stands out as a beacon of decentralization and user empowerment.

For serious bloggers and dedicated readers alike, the `RSS Feed` remains an incredibly powerful, often unsung hero of content distribution and consumption.

Explore Syndication Opportunities: Look for relevant industry aggregators or community hubs that might be interested in pulling content from your `RSS Feed` for broader `content syndication`.

Sure! For my Linux Mint desktop, I use Thundrbird. That screenshot is from my andorid. For android, I use Inoreader. If you saw a different account initially responding to your question from this same instance, I accidentally replied from the wrong account, lol.

What is an RSS Feed and Does Your Blog Still Need One? (Yes!)

Social Media is Filled With Propaganda and Influence Campaigns

Lord, I’m so happy I heavily, heavily filter my content and mostly consume things from RSS feeds, because most media sources are a fire hose of nonstop propaganda. You can inform without trying to persuade or influence. Most media is presented in a way meant to influence my attitude or elicit emotions instead of providing information. I mean all media and all platforms. It’s fucking nuts!

Yes, I even have filters set up for the RSS feeds I read. How conspiracy theories consume people’s brains is insane, and I am actually clinically paranoid.

I’m schizotypal and I take antipsychotics for it, which is why I am extremely careful about what I allow into my head.

I’m aware that conspiracy theories always hook into our biases and what we are already fearful of. Intuitive thinking combined with biases like jumping to conclusions or assuming hidden intentional causes allows narratives to spread that feel emotionally true before they are carefully evaluated.

I’m aware that a lot of what I see on social media is framed to resonate with my existing fears, grievances, or uncertainties, so that it bypasses my ability to consciously reason. It reminds me of how, in chaos magic, sigils are intended to bypass your conscious filter. This is pretty much a memetic version of that.

A lot of actors seeking influence are making use of conspiracy theories to amplify mistrust, target specific anxieties, and reinforce “us versus them” thinking to destabilize individuals or groups. They repeatedly trigger emotional responses and reinforce biased interpretations to manipulate behavior.

The thing is, I am well aware of my mental vulnerabilities, which is why I always lock down and maintain a memetic quarantine.

Just a reminder! If you are looking RSS starter packs, The RSS Review has downloadable OPML files for each category. They can be imported directly into your feed reader to subscribe to the entire category at once.

Tim Disney: Skyreader: A RSS Reader on the AT Protocol. “AT Protocol is the underlying protocol for Bluesky and other decentralized apps. It’s a kind of social filesystem that lets apps interoperate. Skyreader writes the feeds you follow and the shares you make to the AT Protocol, so anyone could build a RSS reader that shows your shares.”

Lifehacker: Why Everyone Should Still Use an RSS Reader in 2026. “It’s now the norm to check social media or the front pages of many different sites to see what’s new.
