Something I thought was old and boring until I tried it for myself: #RSS
I especially like it in combination with a way to sync/backup your feeds, like #FreshRSS, which I'm self-hosting. It's duct taped together for now as I first wanted to try it out, but I'm liking it so far. I had seen those RSS buttons on websites for a while and I never had a way to use them. I guess that's the fun of self-hosting: you notice a problem, and you can always find a solution.

@voxel Wasn't it the dream, once, that we'd all publish #OPML feeds of our feeds, then they'd be easy to browse and others' could quickly click through and see who we follow and who they follow in turn?
(I was going to just reply with the URL of my OPML, but it seems that #FreshRSS doesn't expose it.)

Ich verwalte meine Feeds über FreshRSS. Da ich die Abos gerade neu ordne, habe ich gleich die Erweiterung "Af_Readability" installiert.
Damit werden die vollständigen Texte eines Feeds direkt über den eigenen Server geholt, ohne Drittanbieter nutzen zu müssen.
Die mobilen Apps erhalten so auch den ganzen Text, was die Sache auch mobil beschleunigt.
Just switched my rss reader from #freshrss to #CommaFeed. Fresh RSS was good, and feature packed, Even if I don't use it all, I liked having all the customisation in my hands. But, I decided to switch to CommaFeed. It feels a lot simpler, less customisation of feeds, no archive management/ automatic deletion and no PWA support (The one feature that I need the most above anything else :bunhdcry:). It claims to have Fever API support, but I couldn't get it to work on any mobile apps yet.
But sometimes, simplicity is all you need, and this is a prime example for me. Also, I kinda dig the much more modern interface compared to Fresh RSS.
What RSS Readers/ Feed aggregator do others use?
Edit: Forgot to mention FreshRSS and CommaFeed are self-hosted solutions.

Using #RSS, #FreshRSS is regularly amazing. I am already subscribed to 717 sources, mostly to individuals who regularly write interesting and digestible stuff. I can't read every blog, even of people I admire, so I am ultra picky, and subscribe only if the writing is amazing. And I keep seeing new amazing blogs and thinking "how could it be I never came across it"? The bonus is, people who write amazingly, they too read amazing stuff and give links to it. When Google Reader went away aeons ago, I bought a lifetime license of #feedly to keep consuming my #rss feeds. But yesterday I pulled the plug and moved to a #selfhosted #freshrss (and lire on iOS) and holy moly - this is so much more advanced than feedly. Just the fact that I can have a newsfeed of pages that don't have a rss feed (as long as the website delivers server-rendered html) is awesome! Same for full feed content, all the filters and so on. byeeeeeee feedly.
Everything old is new again, so I deployed FreshRSS.
I didn't realise that you can get an Atom feed of Github releases, which is cool and very helpful for keeping services secure and up to date.

Ich habe den Sprung geschafft.
Ich habe mir mein HomeLab verwirklicht. Zwar besteht der "Server" nur aus einem MicroPC mit wenig Wumms und mein DSL ist vmtl. Auch nicht für krasse Echtzeit-Gameserver geeignet, aber das Grundgerüst steht.
Mein erster Dienst ist FreshRSS für mein Handy und PC, der mich jetzt rund um die Uhr mit den neusten Blogeinträgen aus dem IndieWeb versorgt.
