#RancherDesktop stopped working on my 12-year-old Mac ... Had to switch QEMU x64 to an older version 🤔

@ovid If “touching the amd64 architecture” means #containers, you can use the native #macOS virtualization framework with its Rosetta translation.
I know both #DockerDesktop (https://docs.docker.com/desktop/settings/mac/#:~:text=Use%20Virtualization%20framework) and #RancherDesktop (https://docs.rancherdesktop.io/1.10/ui/preferences/virtual-machine/emulation/#vz) support this.
Not sure how it's done with #PodmanDesktop, but it probably involves the built-in extension that calls #Lima, the latter of which is also used by the #Colima command line tool: https://github.com/abiosoft/colima#customization-examples
@funkatron Can’t say anything about music production, but #macOS #Sonoma seems solid for multi-runtime (#NodeJs, #Perl) project-specific local #development environments managed with #asdf and #direnv installed from #Homebrew. #Docker and #RancherDesktop work too for when I have to get #container-happy.
I've updated my desktop container setup instructions for #RancherDesktop (as well as #DockerDesktop)
You may find it useful. It's CC licenced so feel to reuse

(I will be updating the related workshop as well over the next few weeks and hope to live stream -- if you don't know anything about using containers it's for you)
I've been updating my container "management on the desktop" install instructions.
Now includes Rancher Desktop as well as Docker Desktop for macOS and Windows (plus Linux via get.docker.com).

I'll also be updating the tutorial workbook over the next few weeks.
@RealAndyShark I started using #RancherDesktop last week. I'm sold so far. With the Moby engine things seem to work without changes (but need to either export/import images and volumes). #rancher
@mmornati
I tested it again last Friday but I was not convinced. I'm keeping #RancherDesktop

I just saw in #TheWeeklyDrop that there's a new version of #Lando. Been a while since I used it so I visited the #GitHub page. It looks to me like it still only supports #DockerDesktop. That's a non-starter and why we stopped using #Docksal. If it can't run with #Lima (e.g. #Colima or #RancherDesktop) or another non-proprietary #Docker engine it's a hard "NO." My personal preference has long been #Ddev but I try to keep an open mind

After #DockerDesktop I was using first #RancherDesktop. Nice solution, but I struggled with several problems and needed to reinitialize it on Mac to often. Then I switched to Podman for a while. It’s ok but also limits a bit with the #Docker compatibility when using as base for #Kubernetes.
Trying now #Colima which uses the same base as RancherDesktop and it seems to be a great. Has a configfile, uses k3s and I don’t need a GUI.
My latest video looks at alternatives to #docker desktop including #podman #RancherDesktop #colima and others. It was an interesting dig and tldr… I will personally stick to Docker Desktop, but the standards behind lead to a lot of cool interoperability
My #TechnologicalSingularity #DevOps recipe:
#CueLang to #k8s yamls,
#DaggerIo build step in #TektonPipelines,
#k3s everywhere,
#RancherDesktop for dev, but #DockerDesktop on apfs.
Dev ingresses like app.localhost handled by #Traefik on desktops.

Tried #RancherDesktop for windows and it offers amazing features compared to Docker-Desktop
