Today I made another pilgrimage to the historic Rollright Stones, it's always great to be there.

The Rollright Stones are a complex of Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments, they are used for modern Pagan ritual and have folklore tales associated with them.

The Rollright Stones on the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border about 10 years ago. Photo 1 is The King Stone, the second is The King’s Men, the last is The Whispering Knights plus some idiot with a greyhound larking about because I don’t seem to have a photo of them on their own 😁

After taking this, I did some dowsing in the middle and found each stone connected to the centre by it's own individual "spoke" like a giant wheel.

Yours truly at the one rod pointed itself to the Rollright Stones, the other rod pointed itself to The Whispering Knights (both in a straight line with each other)

Holding the rods loosely by their sleeves while making my "concentration" face, the rod on my right pointed to the Rollright Stones and the other to the Whispering Knights (against the wind!), both lined up in a straight line

Lots of stones today, at the Rollright Stones in Oxfordshire and Warwickshire. There are three monuments of different ages close together, straddling the county border.

📷 A witch, a witch! No, really. Or so (contemporary) legend has it. At The Rollright Stones, Oxfordshire.

My #painting about #history & nature is *very close* to being finished. I'll reveal all once I'm completely sure it's done, and there's enough daylight to get a properly decent photo of it, rather than phone snaps in nasty artificial light.

#Detectorists fans will recognise 'the briar & the bramble' and one or two other things...

Our family tradition for New Year's Day involves a visit to the Rollright Stones (on the Oxfordshire/Warwickshire border). According to legend, its not possible to count the stones and the same number twice!

#StandingStoneSunday #NewYear #RollrightStones

A tightly packed circle of around 65 (maybe?) person-sized stones, roughly-shaped from light grey rock, in a mown grassy field surrounded by bare trees.A line of (let's say) a dozen roughly-shaped standing stones across a grassy field.Walking around the inside of a tight stone circle, a six-year-old boy with blonde hair, wearing a grey camouflage coat and orange wellies, points at a stone as he tries to count them all.
