Here's this game so far! It's a top-down shooter controlled with the SNES mouse, though you can use a normal controller too, and it involves cute critters piloting remote control hovercraft toys with cannons. It's a sequel to novasquirrel.itch.io/sliding-b but this time I want to take a more sincere and character focused approach rather than making it a joke filled with Billy Mays references.

Aiming for a toy aesthetic here, so the obstacles are wooden blocks, and I'm intending on having the background look like a city rug with roads and such.

I know that with EGA/VGA you had to switch memory bank to write the different bitplanes of a pixel. All MSBs together, all LSBs together, always 8 pixels per byte

I know that with the GBA, the 4bpp pixels are packed as twins within a byte. No bitplane. No bank switching.

How does it work with ? What does it look like to upload a 2bpp or 3bpp image into VRAM ?

@wyatt It'd probably be an interesting MCU project to build an adapter from quadrature output to the 32-bit SPI-like protocol of a Super NES Mouse for use with games like Mario Paint and Thwaite.

@chriscovell @asie @wyatt In the case of SNES, it doesn't help that a lot of productions are mods of Super Mario World. Hiding on Discord lets them hide from Google and thereby hide from Nintendo ninjas.

Wrote a python script that uses usb2snes to extract the smpspeed test results out of the VRAM tilemap and into a csv file (while the console is running).
Recorded and graphed my PAL console's S-SMP (audio CPU) clock over 2 hours.

I have released v0.1.0 of homebrew SNES audio driver.

This release adds new echo instructions to audio driver, left/right channel invert and cleans up the 65816 API.

I'm also declaring the MML & bytecode assembly stable. I'm not going to change the current syntax/behavior unless there is a very good reason to do so.

The top page is a brainstorm mind map of village ideas (starting location, guardhouse, NPCs, shop, return, environmental storytelling, etc).
The bottom page is a sketch of an building entryway with stairs leading to a deck.

Surrounding the sketch are notes.
I would like a few with ledges you could jump of -  Issue: one tile high solid wall.
