You can experiment with ZX Spectrum development without installing anything. Just fork the repo on GitHub, select "open in codespaces" and wait a few minutes for it to start. Remember to close and delete the codespace when you finish to avoid bills! #RetroDev #RetroGameDev #RetroComputing

Working on a sequenced music engine for the Sega Saturn. Got it playing back both PCM samples and 4-op FM patches!

(the screen is turned off in OBS b/c my laptop really struggles and the music timing gets a bit screwey)

Modern tools make ZX Spectrum machine code programming fun! #RetroComputing #RetroGameDev

A Z80 machine code program being debugged in VS Code. The registers are shown in the left panel. The assembly language is in the middle panel, with code which has been "hit" highlighted with a green background. A breakpoint has been triggered. On the right is a window showing the program running and highlighting modified memory locations. At the bottom is a terminal with the output of the "make" command, which has built the project.

I was using this and realised I'd made a mistake in the z88dk integration. If you've been using the container but finding your C projects were missing header files, the "include" directory is now "included"! As always, the repo is at boarstone.mcphail.uk/mcphail/spec... #ZXSpectrum #RetroGameDev

Quick reminder that the #retrogamedev IRC channel in Libera is still on: usebox.net/retrogamedev/

Come and lurk with us! There's also the occasional chat that you may love too; likely will share some of the development of my new MSX2 project.

The Homebrew Factory is pretty neat. It appears to be a on-demand physical retro game production company in the same vein as on-demand CD album services. This may be good for NES homebrew devs who are intimidated by selling physical copies.

Dunno how tarrifs are going to affect this, but the idea itself is pretty nifty! They just have to make sure they adhere to quality standards and not do the thing Capcom did where they rereleased Street Fighter 2 on cartridge for SNES and then the cartridges caught fire.

@kyonshi libera.chat, but I'm only really in #scheme, I join #lisp #lispgames #retrogamedev and some others, but they're low-traffic/quality. I try other bars but haven't found one I like.
