After 75 years, the deceased #SomertonMan was successfully identified. The man's body was found in Adelaine in 1948, there were no hints to his identity. In the late 2000s, researcher Derek Abbott and his team began to dedicate themselves to the case. A 5 cm hair was able to solve the mystery of his #identity in 2022 after many inconclusive tests. In his #DNA 2 million #SNPs were found, whereby relatives could be identified.

My first #GTseq (Genotyping in Thousands by sequencing) protocol optimization. This is a #PCR based protocol that amplifies hundreds of target loci. The goal is to include in a single PCR reaction as much primer pairs as possible while minimising primer interactions and maximising target loci amplification. Each locus contains known #SNPs. The optimised GTseq panel will be used for population #GeneticMonitoring of the #endangered 𝘏𝘺𝘣𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘶𝘴 𝘢𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘶𝘴. More species coming. #ConservationGenomics

Hi, I am molecular biologist/asst prof at the Institute of #GeneticEpidemiology in Innsbruck, Austria. Working on #genomics of #lipoproteinA, a #cardiovascular risk factor that is regulated by a long, polymorphic #cnv and #SNPs hidden there. Using standard #molecularbiology, #ngs, #nanopore, #epidemiology and a bit of #bioinformatics. Always curious also about any other cvd epi things and interesting sequencing puzzles in the spare time.

Congratulations to our #NSF REPS PostBac, Jordan Rodriguez, for winning a "Best Presentation" award at #NDiSTEM2022 for her presentation on successfully sequencing the #genomes of 32/36, 112 yo fish specimens from the #smithsonian, resulting in 550k #SNPs to test for evolution when compared with contemporary specimens. Thank you to the members of #PhilippinesPIRE for #bioinformatics and @gcl for lab expertise.
