乖乖玉米脆條五香口味

先日の台湾旅行では、何か台湾らしいスパイスの効いたスナック菓子を買って帰るというのが一つの目標でした。きっと八角の効いたポテトチップスなどがあるのではないかと思っていたのですが、お土産を買いがてらPX Martこと全聯福利中心という現地のスーパーマーケットへ行ってみました。

棚にはたくさんのスナック菓子があって探すのも大変だったのですが、そこで見つけたのは乖乖の玉米脆條五香口味という製品です。「海味鮮蝦與香濃花生醬，搭出絕妙五香風味。」(新鮮なシーフードのエビと濃厚なピーナッツソースを組み合わせることで、素晴らしい五香粉の風味が生まれます。)との謳い文句なので、五香粉、つまり八角、クローブ、シナモン、花椒、フェンネルの香りが楽しめる、まさに私が期待したものではないかということで、空気ばかりでかさばるにもかかわらず4袋購入して持って帰ってきました。

しかし、帰国してしばらくしてから満を持して食べてみると…期待したものとはかなり違いました。まず袋を開けた時点でもスパイスの香りは全然漂ってきませんし、それどころか鼻を近づけてみてもまったくです。食べてみてもなんだかよくわからない、ぼやけた味がします。決して不味いわけではなく、食べ始めるとなんだかんだでクセになる感じではあるのですが、私が期待していた五香粉の味はしないのです。

しかし、レビューなどを見ると「台湾を思い出させる五香粉の香り」などと書かれている人もいるので、これは私の味覚がおかしいのかと思ってしまうほどなのですが、妻に食べてもらっても同じような反応ですし、そもそも魯肉飯の五香粉の香りはしっかりわかるので、味覚の方は問題ないはずです。いったいどういうことなのでしょうか。

ということで、ちょっと期待外れというか、単に期待が大きすぎただけのような気もしますが、きっともっとしっかりスパイスの効いたスナックがあるはず、ということで次回は現地でちゃんと試食もして確認したいと思います。あったら絶対美味しいと思うんですけどね…
