A dumpling squid (Euprymna tasmanica)
Also known as the southern bobtail squid, this #cephalopod inhabits shallow waters off the coast of southern Australia. Itβs an ambush predator and uses mucus glands in its skin to coat itself in sand, where it then lies in wait for prey, like shrimp and small fish. Dumplings must learn to hunt fast: Because males of this species die shortly after mating and females die soon after laying eggs, newborn squid need to fend for themselves.

I have always loved bloopers. π¦ I always felt so bad for the one you have to kill in Super Mario Sunshine! π
One thing I love about Paper Mario is how you can befriend goombas, koopas, etc and see their civilizations. I would like to see bloopers get this kind of love and respect in a game. Like an underwater blooper kingdom level. That would be cool.

Made good progress yesterday working through #DeathsDoor, an indie #ARPG that reminds me a lot of old-school #Zelda games. Great (also unforgiving) game so far, though some of the bosses are a bit of a challenge. You play as a crow, working your 9 to 5 to collect souls as an employed reaper. As one does.
There's a restaurant in the game with the *best* chef - "Jefferson." He cracks me up.

#ResearchVessel provides comprehensive assessment of the changing Central #Arctic Ocean https://phys.org/news/2024-10-vessel-comprehensive-central-arctic-ocean.html
"Luminescent #sardines from the genus Benthosema were omnipresent in the Central #ArcticOcean... These #fish, less than 10 centimeters long, and the #prawns and #squids we found, indicate that the ecosystem surrounding the #NorthPole is more biodiverse than previously assumed."
It's spooky season, so why not add a little malice to your games!
It's a brand new #Squids update, now with something a bit evil!

Day one of the squidboards being live, and while Iβm still holding on to my lead on three of the four modes, my high score has been blown out of the water for Cranky mode π

Giant eggs in a deep-sea squid https://esajournals.onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/ecy.4319
"#MBARI researchers had previously observed deep-sea #squids brooding their eggs, but this sighting was striking because the eggs were twice as large as those of other brooding deep-sea squids... this individual likely represents an unknown species of the family of #Gonatidae and one that broods giant eggs."

#Squid male alternative reproductive tactics are determined by birth date https://royalsocietypublishing.org/doi/10.1098/rspb.2024.0156
"#SpearSquid that hatch earlier in the season become 'consorts' that fight for mating opportunities. Those that hatch later become 'sneakers,' which use more clandestine mating tactics... once a mating tactic had been determined by their birth date, they stuck with it."
