“ASIO director, #MikeBurgess, has described their antics as ‘awful but lawful’,” a #WhiteRose spokesperson said. “However, as we have seen, a number of their stunts have included #racist and #HomophobicLanguage on banners and in speeches, which clearly crosses the line into #HateSpeech or incitement. There appears to be an unwillingness to prosecute this.”

The spokesperson said prosecutions have occurred when members of the group have committed acts of #violence, but with mixed outcomes.

“From our observations, #knowledge of the group’s … #ideology, #tactics and even #membership is patchy across #PoliceForces and #LegalProfessionals. We have repeatedly seen that courts have viewed personal factors such as having a partner and children as protective against future offending,” a spokesperson said.”

“Long-drop toilets away from the house were common, with their cut newspaper and lime bucket. A new pit was dug before each summer. Usually it was quite a walk and, at Ardrossan, we were swooped by magpies in the season. Laurie got out his rifle and shot them. The toilet was often near the woodheap and under a pepper tree or a dollacus creeper, with a blue-mauve flower growing over it. Back lanes for toilet bucket removal were more common in the newer country towns. We enjoyed the fun of the night-soil truck running out of control at Naracoorte, down the hill from the Presbyterian church and into the Lutheran minister’s house at the bottom of the hill. We always thought that Presbyterians believed they were better than the rest of us—even their night-soil. Years later, when Gough Whitlam spoke about the ‘effluent society’ and the need to sewer the outer suburbs in the big cities, I knew exactly what he meant.”

Australia never disappoints - crocodiles that climbed trees

"Some were also apparently at least partly semi-arboreal 'drop crocs,'"
"They were perhaps hunting like leopards—dropping out of trees on any unsuspecting thing they fancied for dinner." #straya

@kevinrns guess when Solar cells replaced gas hot water heating (and now added batteries 🔋) were installed?

Still use gas for cook top, to be replaced. Connection admin costs more than usage.

“My proposition was that #Gough should ask (HM) the #Queen to accept his advice to appoint a new #GovernorGeneral,” he said. “In the event that #Kerr resisted, I said to Gough he should be put under police arrest.”

“That is certainly what I would have done if I was #PrimeMinister.”
Keating, in his first filmed interview on the dismissal for the Museum of #AustralianDemocracy at Old Parliament House in #Canberra, said there was a risk that Kerr could win support from the (ADF) Army to protect him from arrest as he was the nation’s commander-in-chief. This was an issue that #Whitlam had to consider. In other words, you’d have to have the #soldiers with you for this to happen,” — Paul Keating, PM, ‘91 - 96.

Successfully escaped a swooping magpie while riding. The sound of its angry beak snapping as it missed by mere millimetres 😭

Reckon people in their cars were having a good old chuckle at me pedalling head down, swerving side to side (as if that helps) yelling FARRRRK OFFFFFFF

Just back from 4 days in the Great Otway National Park, Victoria. Stunning place, and we mostly managed to stay dry in the wettest part of the state. Here’s photos from a walk along the coastal path. #bushwalking #straya

I hiked through the Great Otway National Park this weekend with some friends, so I took the opportunity today to explain #thicktrunktuesday (which led to an explanation of Mastodon and ALT-text). I believe this is a mountain ash, a species of eucalypt that grows up to 100m tall. #straya #bushwalking

A woman faces the camera with her hand on a tree that completely dwarfs her. The trunk is covered in moss and surrounded by bark. More trees are visible in the background

@bastardsheep

i live in a block of 32 villa units, where there’s a good mix of old farts and young families. plus, there are two paths into the block and a lot of outsiders regularly walk thru with their dogs, and know the place.

at #Halloween residents who want to join in put a balloon and notice on the letter box for a few hours — after school and before dinner — it makes a safe outing for little kids accompanied by parent figures. it’s also a good way for us to mingle with our immediate neighbours (not something city dwellers seem to do a lot of, these days)

#Halloween in #Straya

fren is having the time of her life entertaining little kids accompanied by parents… “we’ve only got tricks here” offering oat bars, yoghurt sultanas…

one smart kid was a hold out, admitting she could see lollies on the hall table, but for the most part they seem happy to take something relatively healthy.
