SUNDAY SONGS • Tijdens de pauzes in mijn werkende leven plaats ik regelmatig tracks in mijn ‘Songs in the Waiting Line’-playlist. Het is een fijne manier om af en toe even ab te seilen naar de platenkast van vroeger. Ik stuit op nummers die ik bijna was vergeten, maar die ik moeiteloos weer mee kan zingen.

Vandaag Lush: een niet zo superbekende Britse band die hun muziek uitbracht op het 4AD label. In die tijd was ik enorm fan van hun hoezen, ontworpen door Vaughan Oliver. Check ook bijvoorbeeld Pixies, This Mortal Coil, The Breeders, Throwing Muses – allemaal van zijn hand. Ik koos dus soms muziek puur om de hoes, zoals ik ook wijn kan kiezen vanwege een mooi etiket.

Bij Lush bleef het bij een EP waar twee van de vier nummers best te pruimen zijn. Ik twijfelde even maar ‘Thoughtforms’ heeft het gewonnen van ‘De-Luxe’. Zwelg even mee in de volle elektroklanken van de jaren ‘90 undergroundsound – voor de afwisseling tussen al mijn singer-songwriterliefde.

The influence of #theosophy and other forms of occultism on modern abstract art is a subject very much close to my heart. Though unlike Mondrian, Kandinsky was never a member of the theosophical society, but he was very much conversant with the works of #Blavatsky, #AnnieBesant, #Leadbetter, and #Steiner.
