So my kid officially came out as non-binary yesterday.

For reference: they told us they were queer a few years ago - lesbian at first, but seem to have settled on bisexual for now. When we went to register them for school, they asked to be listed as non-binary and she/her/they/them pronouns (and, as a side note, I absolutely LOVE living somewhere where preferred name and pronouns on a school form is a thing.)

Yesterday, we went to a PFLAG family picnic, and when going around doing introductions, they announced their new name and pronouns as she/they.

Honestly pretty proud of my kiddo and further encouragement that moving was the right move.

When you're at the lowest points in your life, it's easy to look back with regret, to obsess over all the little things that could've been different, that would've changed things for the better.

But when you're at a place where things are good, I hope you're able to see that every single one of those things is something that contributed to where you are at that moment.
That you might be somewhere similar if things had gone differently, but that the exact sequence of events wouldn't have happened.

I hope you're able to find, not joy, but equanimity; that things will be ok.
Sometimes "ok" is enough.
Sometimes "ok" will get you through the shit, and things can be pretty great.

I'm looking for suggestions on how to screen camps / activities / babysitters / etc. to find trans friendly resources without outing my child or putting her in danger. She passes well but I'm concerned about what happens if they find out and how they might respond. How upfront do people suggest being?

Especially looking for advice from fellow parents of trans children. Child is 5 years old and about to start kindergarten.

My niece Laura has recently come out as a trans boy and has asked to be called Larry.

Larry's parents are reacting better than many. They are loving and mostly accepting.

But they are also, so far, sticking with she/her and Laura.

Can anyone recommend any writings, coming from a place of parental love, explaining the importance of using Larry's preferred name and pronouns?

Anyone willing to share firsthand experience similar to this?

just got back from a shopping trip with my 11-year-old and her mum, and my what an affirming experience that was. particularly when my daughter (who has been struggling a bit with my coming out) said how nice it was to have a girls' shopping day all together 🥰🥹😭

even if i had come away empty handed (i absolutely did not, lmao), the day would have been worth it for that moment alone!
