I couldn’t stomach reading the whole interview. It makes me sick to see one of the most prominent trans politicians in the world just straight up say we have to meet people where they are, when people are at a place in which they want to remove us entirely from existence. Appeasing fascists didn’t work in the 1930s, it’s not going to work now. How do you reason with someone who has a gun to your head?…

Privacy rights make it harder for fascists to achieve their end goals.
They want to create autism lists
They want lists of those “likely to seek abortion”
They want lists of trans people
Nazis also created lists. Of Jewish people, disabled people, LGBTQ+ people and anyone who spoke out against the “regime”.
They will not use these lists for good. Patients deserve privacy.
The latest violation?
“A 2024 federal rule that shielded reproductive health information from disclosure to law enforcement when care was legally obtained, such as in another state with abortion access, was struck down by a federal judge in Texas on Wednesday evening”
Even if you legally obtain an abortion, they will be able to access that information.
They want to squash our reproductive freedoms.

I still think the trans rights "issue" is a wedge issue to normalize removal of body autonomy.
I am unfamiliar with the case SCOTUS ruled on. were there 13th amendment arguments? I see no mention in scotusblog writeups, I do see 14th amendment mentions.
anyhow once everyone accepts the framing that the State has an interest in denying you body autonomy a lot of evil shit follows. trans rights gone, reproductive rights gone (I think these are flip sides of the same coin) ... rights to freedom of movement gone, rights to not-be-incarcerated-for-any-reason gone, rights to be not-enslaved, gone ...
we're pretty far down that path. we should be pushing back on *any* nullification of the 13th amendment.

Also, it's to oppose the far right anti-lgbt campaign by AfD, where they abuse the german flag for their propaganda.

Part of a democracy is the protection of minorities from a majority and despotism.
This is achieved through laws, rights and the ability to successfully demand their practical implementation.
It is a Supreme Court's duty to guarantee these protections and their implementation.

I know there are a few (three?) concurrence, I didn’t check those if that’s what the post is referring to.
I want to be clear, New York Times has had a corrosive effect of many aspects of our democracy and society including trans rights and I do not intend to defend nyt, especially their “opinion” pieces. I believe more people should unsubscribe (and stop play wordle).
