I must say I'm impressed by the work NIC.cz has done on the #Turris and #TurrisOS.

It has upgraded fully automated, switched from the iptables based firewall to nft, rebooted at night (which is what I configured it to do on upgrades) ... and everything is working as expected out-of-the-box.

That is just excellent engineering work!

Hey @freifunk @ffs @FreifunkKreisGT wisst ihr ob man auf #TurrisOS auch #Freifunk betreiben kann?

Das basiert auf #openwrt, benutzt aber eine Paket-basierte Softwareverwaltung. Man kann auch eine LXC VM laufen lassen, was die Notlösung wäre.

Ich hab mir das Konzept gerade mal angeschaut, und finde es sehr interessant!

Ich dachte immer das wäre einfach kostenloses WLAN zu einem normalen ISP, aber das Mesh Netzwerk macht das ganze... komplexer aber auch cooler!

Turris advertizes their Omnia crazy much, while that is really old hardware, 32bit etc.

The #turrismox is modular!! And 64bit ARM!! And half the price???

This makes no sense. It even has an SD card slot, I got a 64GB card left, will make a good base for a #Nextcloud server or something else.

Wichtigste #OpenWrt-Funktionen, die ich #2022 verwendet habe, falls wer Ideen braucht:

* Attended Sysupgrades (updates ohne die übliche Mühe)
* DAWN (schnelle Übergabe der Clients zwischen den APs, Komfortable Übersicht übers gesamt-WLAN)
* SQM QoS (einfache Vermeidung stockenden Datenverkehrs nach draußen)
* Hardware flow offloading (schnelles NAT)

Da hat sich echt viel getan in den letzten Jahren, ein Blick drauf lohnt sich.

Router ist bei mir der Turris Omnia, als zweiter AP fungiert ein Netgear WAC124. Verbunden sind beide mittels #MoCA 2.0 über altes TV-Coaxkabel, das läuft so viel besser als mesh oder plc.

#TurrisOS taugt für mich persönlich leider nix mehr, hat Macken an allen Ecken und Enden.

I did the math, it wouldn't have been cheaper to locally purchase a Wi-Fi 6 mPCIe card, 2 pigtails and an antenna - AND drill a further hole in the upper case of my router. So I took the easy way, and ordered it from Czechia.
