Thought about the stranded #journalists & #resistance #opinion #writers at #WashPo today & whether to resubscribe. Paradoxically, the best way to support them is to unsubscribe from the #WashingtonPost. There is only one channel of communication that #Bezos pays any attention to, and that is #Money.

The #Washpo offered subscribers, who cancelled their subscriptions after Bezos’ memo, half off the price if they came back. Today, they cut that by another 20%. Pretty soon it will be given away.

Pressestimme vom 28.02.2025 #WashPo sehr optimistisch. Sollte sich das bewahrheiten, könnte es auch andere von #Russland ausgebeutete und unterdrückte Kolonien auf Gedanken bringen …

#WashPo reports state-specific and nationwide temporary restraining orders (TROs) on Monday’s #NIH indirect cost. (Note: TROs are just a pause, they but don't overturn anything.)

“On Monday afternoon, a federal judge issued a [TRO] that halts the move in 22 states…. That evening, a coalition …filed a more sweeping lawsuit seeking to stop the cuts nationwide.”

fwiw, I saw this t-shirt on someone in a YouTube short and didn't realise it was by The Washington Post. I do feel like it's a nice slogan though.

Feel like it's a little rich to see The Washington Post selling a t-shirt with the slogan of "democracy dies in darkness" when they couldn't even endorse a non-felony candidate for president..

How #WashPo is using #AI to block access to its archive.
indignity.net/the-washington-p

"The [tool] scans 8 years' worth of the paper's 147-year history, tries to guess what stories have words related to the words in your query, strings together words from those stories with more guesswork, and then lists a sample of articles in its own chosen order. There's no way to rearrange them by date rather than by "relevancy," or to set a date range, or to do any other sorting or selection."

"...I'm endorsing Kamala #Harris for president, because I like elections and want to keep having them..."

It falls to the paper's satirist, who happens to be a woman, to "have the balls" to take a stand at the #WashPo. (Unfortunately, as easy a joke as that is to score, it's not funny.)

"How the Supreme Court’s immunity ruling could really backfire"
washingtonpost.com/opinions/20

@washingtonpost (#WashPo) put a misleading title on this article.

The article doesn't argue that the decision will be bad for authoritarians like the #Trumpists who pushed for it and hope to benefit from it.

It argues that the decision will be good for authoritarians. It's as bad as you thought it was or even worse.

Hey #WashingtonPost #WashPo! Instead of manufacturing drama re: Biden’s age, where’s your breathless front page coverage of our country’s slide into christofascism?

Tell your bosses that #WeBackBiden! (btw you know you won’t have a job if the other guy wins, right?)

Screenshot of a Threads post from Judd Legum (@realjuddlegum). The text includes a quote attributed to Senator Josh Hawley from 7/8/24:

"And some will say now that I am calling America a Christian nation. And so I am. And some will say I am advocating Christian nationalism. And so I do. Is there any other kind worth having?" -- Josh Hawley, 7/8/24

This is a real quote from a United States Senator

@GottaLaff
1/ Here are some #NYTimes/ #WashPo journalists/contributors on mastodon. If you find more, feel free to add in comments!

Not all of them are very active, cover politics, or contribute to problematic coverage. Tagging them is NOT intended to shame/berate anyone! It’s simply a way to get the msg to higher-ups (“hey, Boss, people seem mad about your decision to destroy democracy, and it’s totally clogging my inbox. Maybe stop doing that so they stop tagging me about it?”).

#WeBackBiden

@GottaLaff This isn’t a direct communication to WashPo, NYTimes, etc., but over on the birdsite (or maybe threads? I forget), supporters are being encouraged to use and spread the hashtag #WeBackBiden. Lots of us here are supporters and trying to push back, but maybe including a common hashtag like that in our posts would help increase reach and visibility here? Especially if we can tag those news orgs as well?
