Actual view of where I live.
The yellow circle with the cutest doggo in it is where I live, in the bottom half of the Historic Alcoa / Regional Enterprise Tower big gray building. Traffic on William Penn Pl. is one way, crossing 6th.
You can't see it in this Google Maps satellite photo, but these streets are usually JAMMED with cars, because the building across William Penn Pl. from where I live is the Monaco hotel, and the blue scribbled line is the Omni William Penn hotel. They have no turnarounds, and pickup and dropoff occurs in the parking lanes of the street, heavily managed by their valet staff.
People turn or drive into the red box and then just stop. It's infuriating. Traffic backs up in all directions except in front of them.
Honking ensues, which is really annoying when, like we do, one lives in a low-numbered floor close to the street (we're literally on 2 in the front corner at the actual intersection). Honking, solid, for minutes at a time. And yes I'd probably honk too if people just tied up traffic because they have no situational awareness.
I get it. We're all built differently and have different strengths and weaknesses, but like damn dude if you're gonna drive a car try not to pull over in the MIDDLE of a hugely busy downtown intersection to load and unload and talk to pedestrians while traffic backs up for a mile in an already congested city.

#WilliamPenn stood for freedom and tolerance. This made him unacceptable to the #NationalParkService. https://reason.com/2024/01/10/william-penn-statue-reversal-shows-positive-power-of-social-media/
are we trading the first government in modern times founded on secular principals of commerce and tolerance for a fascist con man whose cult thinks Jesus supports the NRA, science is fraud and earth is 6000 yrs old, next month??

The Bushel case of 1670, celebrated in a plaque in the Old Bailey, was that of two Quakers, William Mead and William Penn. Back then, nice middle-class liberals actually stood for something, and they wouldn't give up.
Sir Edward Davey take note.
I applaud those standing today in solidarity with Trudi Warner.

And here's a picture of that plaque:

Heading off shortly to “the best place to live in Wales”, to the Friends’ Meeting there, and to an hour of silence!
‘True silence… is to the spirit what sleep is to the body, nourishment and refreshment.’ (William Penn, 1699)
When William Penn was convinced of the principles of Friends, and became a frequent attendant at their meetings, he did not immediately relinquish his gay apparel; it is even said that he wore a sword, as was then customary among men of rank and fashion. Being one day in company with George Fox, he asked his advice concerning it, saying that he might, perhaps, appear singular among Friends, but his sword had once been the means of saving his life without injuring his antagonist, and moreover, that Christ had said, ‘He that hath no sword, let him sell his garment and buy one.’ George Fox answered, ‘I advise thee to wear it as long as thou canst.’ Not long after this they met again, when William had no sword, and George said to him, ‘William, where is thy sword?’ ‘Oh!’ said he, ‘I have taken thy advice; I wore it as long as I could.’
Samuel Janney, 1852
