Peonies and lillies are up, primroses blooming, hydrangeas leafing out, hastas up, rosebushes leafing out fast. Purple clusters on the wisteria which means magic time is nearly here.

The most handsome frog has taken up residence in our little pond :] #zone7b #swva #virginia #froggie #frogsOfMastodon #wildlife

It's officially spring here, even though the calendar doesn't agree yet šŸ˜† #bloomscrolling #springflowers #swva #zone7b

Fava beans are in! I think I have about 40 plants, so likely enough for sharing. In my experience very few people in my area have eaten these. But everyone is quick to remind me that they have a cameo in The Silence of the Lambs. Cue the cannibal joke, etc. #FavaBeans #beans #legumes #gardening #garden #allotment #zone7b #VegetableGardening

Plans are:
Greenhouse: tomatoes, bell peppers, cucumbers
Pots in front yard: potatoes, lovage
By driveway: rhubarb
New field: corn, hokkaido, butternut squash, courgettes, maybe decoration pumpkins for Fall
Raised beds: savoy cabbage, lettuces, strawberries, radishes, spinach, leeks + carrots, onions + garlic
Now that we’ve settled on this, we’ll flesh out more plans like basil with tomatoes and marigolds somewhere to do some of the partnering to ward off baddies.

I tried the 3 sisters last year inspired by Robin Wall Kimmerer in ā€œBraiding Sweetgrassā€, that is, corn + squash + runner beans. However no one is hyper about runner beans so it’ll be 2 sisters only this year.

Successful house meeting about the 2025 garden. March will involve lots of digging to prep a new plot. Last year was a practice year and an utter newbie year. Now I’m upping my game. #gardening #zone7b #greenhouse #GardeningNewbie

@lizzard. The library is always a good idea. We are Zone 4b. Zone 7b will have considerably more plant choices. Then your shady and sandy situation will narrow the native plant choices back down. #nativeplants, #zone7b.

I made a spreadsheet of early spring flowers native to #PA that I'd like to grow:
docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d

I'm sick of only seeing introduced spring plants, crocuses, snowdrops, lesser celandine, etc. Biking last spring I saw acres of the same plant crowding out all others, one note where there once was a symphony.

I'm not sure I've seen any of these native plants in person, although I may not have looked very hard.

"I wandered lonely as a cloud
That floats on high o'er vales and hills,
When all at once I saw a crowd,
A host, of golden daffodils;
Beside the lake, beneath the trees,
Fluttering and dancing in the breeze."

I’ve had spinach growing under cover all winter, more or less neglected, and it’s perfect. #garden #gardening #zone7b

We had a burst of spring weather yesterday here in #MiddleTennessee and I noticed a few bulbs peeking out in my front #garden bed. So excited.

Waiting for new seeds! 🄰 and then I’ll get started this year

Getting ready to place an order for my 2024 seeds. Since my spring vacation got canceled, I will have the time to set up and manage seedlings this year. #gardening #Zone7b

Garden clean-up day. Yanked up the squash plant because I can't even. So now there's a final squash harvest to deal with. Along with last cucumbers. And last watermelons. Tomatoes are still thick on the vines so those will keep going for a while.

Left out a few things. Chocolate mimosa still has pink pompoms, rose of sharon in full flower, 9 bark had a rebloom, the geraniums and begonias never stopped, bougainvillea is flowering away. Basically you wouldn't know it's October.

Our accidental cross might be my favorite, but don't tell her sisters 😜 #homeiswherethegardenis #homegrown #cannabis #420friendly #gardening #zone7b #virginia #sungrown #containergardening
