The joys of the 1970's electrics in a cheap hostal in Spain in 2024. This is as far as I dare shove this incompatible plug into this damaged socket. And, no, of course, there is no proper Schuko socket in the room. But I *must* play with my #mpc.
No children are around and I promise to unplug this again as soon as I'm done.
Akai is going to completely overhaul the user interface and workflow paradigms for MPC with this new version 3. As always with major version releases, whilst most people are in agreement that the new one is better, everybody will have to re-train their muscle memory. Plus there's a whole load of documentation, particularly from 3rd parties, like YouTube tutorials & MPC Bible that becomes defunct overnight.
I'm just loving playing with the DAW-less stem separation right inside my Akai MPC. It's making me think - perhaps this is the dawn of a new kind of pub quiz round - just the bass part or just the drums - a few bars and - name that tune!
In this case, just naming the drummer gets you dix points.
Whilst researching a "groovebox" for making my own backing tracks to play along to with my bass (an instrument with strings), I've learned that the word "producer" more has two meanings.
Originally "producer" meant somebody who knows their music theory inside out as well as being able to play instruments and can direct a band to make a banging record. Like #rickbeato.
The other sort mostly knows sweet FA about music but can tap some buttons in time, maybe.

I worked on a new original track for the first time in at least three years today. It felt really good to get lost in the groove again.
Might have gotten a little too lost though... Forgot to drink any water and gave myself a wicked headache.
But the track has really solid bones, so I think I'll keep working on it over the holidays and see if I can come up with something worth releasing.
